Farsund, Norway

Our forthcoming cruise on Balmoral now has the port of Farsund on the itinerary. Wondered if anyone has been there who could tell me a bit about it.

I feel distinctly underwhemed FOCL by the substitution of Farsund for Eidfjord. Most disappointing.

Well, we returned from our cruise last Friday and had a great holiday. I wasn't able to find out too much about Farsund but thanks to all who posted replies.

 

We arrived in Farsund to a beautiful day, docked about a mile from the town. We walked into Farsund although there were shuttles and tenders available. It is a pretty little place to spend a few hours, although we did see one couple walking back to the ship who said they had 'done it' and had probably only been there for about an hour. Its mainly a port for small pleasure boats with a small town. We walked around the first half of the harbour and had a lovely chat with a local lady who told us that there was to be an organ concert in the local church later but we didnt make it in time. We bought snacks and drinks for our lunch from the Coop supermarket and sat on the boardwalk watching the boats to eat it. We found the toilet (free) behind this supermarket just on the boardwalk.

 

After lunch we walked around the other side of the harbour where there is another supermarket and more shops and then up to the church before making our way back to the ship by tender. Altogether a very pleasant day. Now that we have been to Farsund I wouldn't mind if it was on a future itinerary although would probably take an excursion or maybe walk further out of the town.
