Rougher waters? Eastern or Western Caribbean?

What has been your experience if you have gone on both Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises? Have you had rougher seas in the Eastern or the Western? I know it depends on the weather, but do you have a preference because of the swells?

We experienced rougher waters on our Eastern cruise. You go out into the Atlantic and it can be rougher than the Western. There have also been times when the Eastern has not been rough at all.

 

But as you say, it depends on the weather.

The roughest ride we ever had was on the Eastern last year. One of the smoothest we've had was on the Eastern on a previous year. As you said, it depends on the weather, but the Eastern does put you in the Atlantic which is historically rougher than the Caribbean Sea.

Have done Southern, Western and Eastern. Western was by far the roughest. Just check the boards to see how often ships are unable to tender into Grand Cayman! Southern is almost always the smoothest, with Eastern in the middle.IMHO

Definitely Western...the Gulf of Mexico can be really mean, especially in the early springtime. Seasons and weather are factors, as was mentioned, but some ships handle rough seas better than others, too!

Well, last year (in july) we went on eastern caribbean and the waters were rough. When we went on the tenders the waves were larger then normal but it is probably because there was some raining during the day. It really depends on what time of year you cruise or if the weather is bad.
