4merlurker Posted July 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Hi all. 125k points = 7 night "caribbean" cruise for 2. Unfortunetly our home port (bayonne) only offers 9+ nights. Could we use the points for the 7 night bahamas cruise or apply the points to the 9+? Thanks!
kc320 Posted July 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2012 You can redeem the points for $$ off the 9 nt cruise.. each 15,000 points is $150 off the cruise price...
cruisegirl1 Posted July 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Perhaps you can travel to a different embarkation port. M

Thanks, I thought of that but I don't think that's the way to get my moneys worth. :)
4merlurker Posted July 5, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Perhaps you can travel to a different embarkation port. M With 2 kids in college this year we are trying to vacation on the cheap. Airfare eats into the budget too much and with cape liberty only a 1/2 hour away I'd hate to have to drive 2+hours to the next nearest port. 4merlurker Posted July 5, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted July 5, 2012 so then its a no? Bahamas doesn't count as a Caribbean cruise?
cruisegirl1 Posted July 5, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 5, 2012 RCCL will “categorize” them on the website. Caribbean, Bahamas, Holiday, etc. We’ve used points for 4 day Bahamas cruise , but we have to fly (or drive at least 8 hours) to any port so it is simply part of the cruise cost for us. You are lucky you live so close to a port. BTW – you are correct in most cases the free cruise is the best bang for your points. Hope you find something that works. m
kc320 Posted July 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 5, 2012 so then its a no? Bahamas doesn't count as a Caribbean cruise? No, it doesn't count as Caribbean...and it's also the fact it's a 9nt vs 7nt...my boss's wife had enough points for a free 3-4 night cruise & they would not let her use them for a 5nt cruise...so she cashed them in & used them towards a 7nt cruise...guess she showed them...:D
rae8836 Posted July 10, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2012 Trick here is that the 'free' cruise can be worked out to be a max of $2/point while 'cashing in' gets you just $1/point. In our case we used 125,000 points for a 'free' 7 day Allure of the Seas cruise. Our total cruise price (2 people) was reduced by just under $2400...... Could make up the difference between NJ and other port with 'Caribbean' departures.
