RCI v Celebrity.

Recommended Posts

We have booked to go on celebrity in November. We have been offered a good deal on independance instead of constelation. Should we change?

We like celebrity but are slightly worried about the upcoming cruise being too old for us.

Any opinions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you have given us enough information. Have you cruised before on RC or just Celebrity. Do you receive any perks through Celebrity? With both cruises being very similar in itinerary, I would give Independence a try and see how you like it. We have done many RC cruises, and have only gone on 1 Celebrity (the Millennium) and we loved it. We have booked a 14 night on Celebrity Eclipse, followed by a 6 night on RC Independence. IMO, the 2 lines are much more alike than different. With the itinerary and length, I think either cruise would have about the same types of passengers.

We really need to know your age group, travelling with children or not, activities that you enjoy while onboard.

I love Royal and I also like Celebrity.

I normally travel with another woman and we are in our 50's.

We like to go to the casino and stay up late at night and Royal offers lots of late night activities.

Celebrity not so much.

As much as I loved the new Solstice class ships as far as food, service, decor goes, I really like the late night snack options and activities much better on Royal.

If you go to bed early and don't like to see kids, then maybe Celebrity would work best for you.

If you want to try RCCL then you can, its a nice line for everyone of all ages! I personally love both RCCL and Celebrity. I had a fantastic time on both the Allure and Equinox, wonderful ships! If you really enjoyed your cruises on the Eclipse and Equinox then I think the Constellation is okay, as it was "Solsticized" (refurbished with lots of Solstice Class amenities) in 2010. I also think Independence is a nice ship, looks fun!

Whatever you choose, Have a great cruise! :D

Independence is quite a bit newer than Constellation (although Constellation was recently refurbished), not sure if that means much to you. It also has about double the passenger capacity. Personally, I think service is better on RCI, and more importantly for me, I can drink the free coffee on RCI! Celebrity uses a coffee concentrate - yuck. However, if you aren't a coffee drinker this would not be a meaningful difference. Food is probably slightly better on Celebrity. You will likely see a greater diversity of ages on RCI compared with Celebrity, but this may vary by the location of the cruise.

You have made it a little difficult to give you advice.

Why are you now worried about this cruise being too old for you? It will be as old as any other Celebrity cruise you have been on.

Celebrity is actually my favorite cruise line. But I am sailing RCI lately because of their unique ships and available activities. The Independence is a Freedom class ship and is one of those ships that will offer activities not available on Celebrity. Also it is a younger crowd with more attended late night activities.

You owe it to yourself to experience a different class of ship. The only reason not to is dollars and/or itinerary.

Personally I feel the age is more a factor of the length and itinerary of the cruise then the line.
