njhorseman Posted July 12, 2012 #26 Share Posted July 12, 2012 Hello, you may not be aware but this thread was originally posted on the RCI board before being moved to this section so at the time when I answered my information was correct with reference to RCI .As previously stated we received a copy of the TA's invoice with RCI showing the breakdown, commission was based on 15% of the cruise fare, excluding taxes and fees. Here in the UK we have used an online TA who give 10% discount on RCI pricing and another one who will beat that price again by an extra 1% which on a high value cruise can be worth it to them. While your answer may be correct with respect to what Royal Caribbean paid that particular travel agent, You can't assume it applies to all agencies as commissions vary . You answered as if that was a standard rate for everyone.

That is just what your TA made... that is not what all of them make. That's a pretty wild assumption to think that everyone gets the same commission just because you saw it on your invoice once. The TA that only got 10% (went back and reread it... and was off by a few percent) was commenting that it was in her best interest to book with an agency that gets higher commisions so she might get a 10% rebate plus an OBC on her cruise... something she couldn't even offer herself as she wasn't making that much off of the sale. So volume and relationshp with the line does matter.
