Monarch July 6th thru 9th

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I have really enjoyed reading as people post about their cruise and looking at their photos. So with no further lurking im going to make my first post a recount of our cruise on the Monarch July 6-9th.

Is there anything better than making that last work phone call turning your phone on "airplane" mode and then blowing past all the folks in line because youre a CA member. We were late getting on the boat at around 1pm but made up time with a quick drop off of the bags in the room and pouring that oh so sweet first vacation beer down in Boleros. (i hope i get the photos to post as this is my first time posting after a few years of lurking)

Living in Orlando growing up going to Jetty Park watching the Cruise Ships leave, it gives me great enjoyment being able to be on the ships now and wave at everyone there fishing. Going on our tour of the ship I had the GF stop and pose for some of the cruise photos everyone takes but we never have. (after 7 cruises I have racked up all of about 15 photos untill this one) After we waited for the pilot to jump off and give him the best cheer we could it was time to get ready for dinner. We have always cruised with a group of friends so this would be the first time we had to sit with strangers. I know that the ships try to group people around the same age i have also been told some horror stories in the past.

After getting off deck we hit up the Schooner bar for a drink where we found a friendly bartender and some good people watching. Then we were off to get ready for dinner and found the bottle of champagne and chocolate strawberries that this worlds greatest boyfriend had ordered. Thats when the room steward knocked on the door to ask if we wanted the beds together right now or if we wanted to wait for him to do it when we were at dinner. After a good laugh after I figured out why the hurry I told him that there was no rush, we have been together to long. We did have that semi sad conversation about the Monarch leaving, again that ship does have the best crew. We were off to dinner where we sat with a fun group of people some of who we spent a great deal of time hanging out with on the ship and islands.

After dinner we went to the welcome aboard show which is always fun and then we were back to the schooner for drinks and piano sing along time. A few of or new cruise friends met us there and the good time began to roll. Every trip to the bathroom took me past the casino and finally between the drinks and my lack of will power to play slots i had to pop in and burn through some money. I though the GF wouldn't miss me while I played 20 bucks in a dollar slot, how long could that take? bad news it takes you a while when you have to wait to collect your 600 dollar jackpot! so i was found in the casino but how can you be mad at paying for your cruise in the casino on your first night. Back the the piano we went after getting a round of "fancy" drinks in the casino for us and our new friends. Then the girls were in a singing mood! sorry other patrons at the schooner. After the schooner it was time for pizza and bed. The welcome back party with free drinks was in the morning!

Day two was Nassau which isn't my fav place to stop but its much better than it used to be. I woke up around 8 to grab some coffee and wait for the casino to open so i could give some money back. After a giving a little money back i went to wake up the GF and get ready for the welcome back event. We arrived the standard 10 minuets late as we always seem to but in time for the free food and drinks. I love to hear all the nights that some of those panicle members have occurred, gives me something to dream about. Also i ate caviar for the first time, pretty good stuff. Now its off the boat to walk about the island and find a place for lunch. We ate at sharkys where the food second to the drinks and it taste that way. You can never beat the people watching when you have 3 carnival ships in port. We headed back to the ship to get ready for dinner but before I couldn't resist taking a few photos next to the carnival freedom.

Dinner was great and it was time to get dressed for some time at senior frogs. I might have been a bit obnoxious with my attire but acting like a bit of a fool is what i enjoy about a good cruise. We went back to the island with our new friends from our dinner table to find some nightlife. We tried sharkys where we had lunch to find ourselves the only people in there so off to senior frogs we went. After a couple yards of who knows what we wanted to get back to the ship before it got to late and we lost track of time. Our night ended back on the Monarch in the schooner with more piano singing.

Day three and the last day, Coco Cay I'm sure everyone has been there so ill save the words and only talk about the different things from the standard. We walked around the island to barefoot beach where we had a much longer walk to the bar than i would have liked. While i was at the bar getting some drinks a man on the beach started to yell shark! and sure enough there was about a 5 foot shark swimming among the swimmers. One of the funniest things i have seen was the people all on their floats paddling for their lives. The shark hung around for a while cruising up the beach where i went got the GF and went wading after. We couldn't get real close to him so we went back to our lounge chairs to lay for a while. While on the chair a lizard climbed onto my face and while looking for the camera he moved to my shoulder and hung out for a while before making the jump onto the GF. We went back to the ship a little early for a nap for the GF and some casino time for me. We skipped dinner to save time and spend a little time on deck at the pool bar. Also a must do it the QUEST game show, its always good for a ton of laughs. Then we went to the casino for a little last bit of slots where I won again so for the first time i was able to leave a cruise ship with more money than when I got on (don't tell the IRS).

Another great cruise on the Monarch my second favorite ship next to the Freedom. don't know if i can wait till December 3rd for our cruise on the Liberty might have to jump back on the Monarch

I gotta admit the last time I was in Nassau I was disappointed with Sharkeez. Food was not good and it took forever to get a drink at the bar.

Yeah its a place I wont eat at again, out waitress was good and quick with the drinks so we got lucky. The food tho was really bad and way over priced even by cruise port prices.
