You are tendered off at Villefranche (it's a lovely little town in it's own right) and then you walk to the right around the waterfront for 5/10 minutes and the station is across the road and elevated from the promenade level. (The ship's map will help but there is a tourist info office at the tende drop off too.) Here is the site to check the timetable - I've just put in any old date to pull the info up. http://www.raileurope.co.uk/default.aspx?tabid=101 As you can see they don't take long and are fairly frequent. I've found our ticket from last October and we paid 5.40E return - now I'm not sure whether that was for us both or each (it's a bit of a challenge it's in French! :o ) but it's very cheap compared with the cost of an organised trip when you're not going far and there are five of you. Dark Defender Posted July 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2012 Its 5 euro 40 cents return per person. The situation on tickets is on signs in the train station - don't forget to validate your ticket at the machine outside the ticket office on the platform. Really easy to do this on your own. I did it a month ago, and walked to Monaco palace (even caught the change of the guard) and then did the little train tour after visiting the cathedral. The train tour was our only experience of Monte Carlo, but it was excellent, and will be bery easy for you and your family to explore. Have a great time! gills50 Posted July 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 13, 2012 Make sure you have a good map to orientate yourself as its a bit complicated we found to move around the place as it is on a split level.
lilys gran Posted July 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2012 :)We chose the ships tour a couple of years ago, the coach ride is breathtaking with stunning views of the harbour, your taken to monaco first then onto monte carlo where the coach follows the grand prix track a little. you then get taken to the casino where as your brother is car mad so is my son! he stood next to porche, lambogini, ferrari and thought he was in heaven! we then had time to walk the tract, visit the very rich harbour and decide which super yacht we liked! All in all a great excursion for any car mad child/ adult!! Lorraine
deepsix Posted July 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Done Monaco and the start line right on the waterfront be aware it is quite hilly from what I remember, we were actually docked there so real easy for us.

CRUISIN LINDA Posted July 15, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 15, 2012 Hi Michelle We did a trip from Villefranche to Monaco from the Ocean Village. It was fabulous. We went along the coast, wonderful views, then we went along some of the grand prix track, then to the Royal Palace and then to the casino. The cars parked outside - wow - worth a few millions:eek: I would recommend the ship's trip, if it is as good as the one we went on :)
