Using XM radio on northbound Vancouver to Whittier?

Will we be able to pick up a signal on our XM radio while sailing from Vancouver to Anchorage? The radio has an external antenna and we will be in a balcony room. Any insights appreciated.

Probably not as the antenna is directional and you will have the steel of the ship all around you. I have tried using a GPS aboard a ship and found that it only works if you are on the top deck.

Going North, it will probably not work on the port side and will probably work on the starboard side due to satelite locations. I have sirius and not XM and I don't think the metal on the ship will be a problem.

PS: I did not take my radio on last cruise as did not have room for it all.

I am not at all sure XM is available in Alaska. Last year when I bought my new truck I got a credit for the XM service that was not available. FWIW
