Summergee Posted July 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Can anyone tell me if it is possible to just have a day on the beach when the boat is in Cannes.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Absolutely and you can do it all on foot. When you walk out of the tender pier area you just keep walking and keep the water on your left (walking away from the center of Cannes). You will very quickly see a sandy beach (its called the Plage du Midi) and it has the benefit of being free. There are many cafes close to this beach (walking back towards town along the Marina) where you can get a nice lunch. Hank
sunshinesdad Posted July 23, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2012 Hlitner is quite correct - but (as a Cannes resident) I would recommend your considering going the other way - to your right, towards Cannes centre, with the sea on your right. You pass a wonderful "old" harbour with wooden sailing ships, you go past the "Suquet" hill (up high to your left), and walk past the Palais des Festivals (as used for the Cannes Film Festival) You have then a selection of both public and private beaches (with excellent restaurants) - and you are on the famous "Croisette" (promenade) of Cannes. stingraynz Posted July 23, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2012 There you go summergee, two excellent sources of info and beaches in BOTH directions. I agree with both posters, to the right you have the coisette and lots of more 'organized' beaches with loungers for rent and lots of restaurants and a real vibe of 'see and be seen' atmosphere. However, I do remember seeing the area Hank is mentioning on our way back to the ship last time we were there and it was nice and low key and we all thought that is where we should go next time we have a port stay in Cannes. Glad you are deciding to stay in Cannes it is a great port stop and way too many people are so interested in leaving town instead of staying put and enjoying it!!
