Try living in Mississippi. Hahahaha!!!!!

OP here, exactly my point. I don't get the frame of reference, I like jokes, I like to laugh, I just don't know what would be so funny if I tried to live in Mississippi? Was it the grits post a couple up? Maybe the reference to fried green tomatoes? I have a buddy that lives in Jackson, maybe I can e-mail him this link to decipher for me...

I live on Long Island & I would never judge a guy from Philly, unless he is wearing an Eagles jersey, even then I realize he doesn't know any better... :)

I'm from Jersey and we only judge people from Philly.

Love this thread. There have been several times some one has posted about where they are from or how they were raised when giving a condescending view of a behavior mentioned in a certain thread.

Come off the high horse.

Not only did I get my ticket to the freakshow whan I was born , I became a 9-1-1 dispatcher and an EMT. So for the last 29 years I have had a ring side seat, skybox view and back stage pass to the freak show *LOL*

This post reminds me of an joke on the old game show Hollywood Squares . If you don't know it was a game show where celebrities answered trivia questions and the contestants had to agree or disagree with their answer to win prizes.

A lot of the celbrities were old comics and would give "Joke" answers before giving the serous one.

The old comic Marty Allen was asked "Marty for a real treat what would a boy from Philly stick his Pretzel in ?"" Of course the answer is mustard .

Marty Allen answered "A girl from New Jersey"

I love when I hear someone say,"Well, I'm from_______ and you would never see _______ there". Insert wherever you want in the first line and whatever bugs them in the second. Man, live and let live. Here's a little secret, everyone thinks where they are from and how they grew up is the right way, best way, etc. What I can't wrap my head around is the need to share your dissatisfaction with the unfortunate souls who wandered in earshot. You aren't in Kansas anymore Toto, when you are born you are given a ticket to the freakshow... why not enjoy today's performance with a smile? Unless someone is actually violating your safety, personal space, or directly engaging you in a confrontational or distasteful manner who gives a crap? We are all on vacation together and if you don't like the general public I suggest a more upscale vacation.

Come on down to live in florida, we get that all the time from the new arrivals when they tell us how much better they do it in __________ (Ohio and Michigan people are the biggest offenders).

After a few years they stop being that way and then get to make fun of the newer people saying it.... and the cycle goes on and on.

I was born and raised in Baltimore City...there is nothing we don't do here haha :/

I also believe most people have no idea what people do in their towns 100% of the time :)

It's ironic for me that you posted this... we live near a tourist beach area and a FB "friend" just posted that they are local to _____ would NEVER do some of the things that the tourists do. She then went on to share some of the things they (the locals) have done when cleaning cottages. Those things were just as bad, if not worse, than what the tourists do... Hypocrisy at it's best...

I think you mistook what I was trying to say. I've lived here my entire life and have been judged bc I'm not as closed minded as some people living here. I'm not at church when everytime the doors open, don't care if people are gay, etc. I'm the one that's been judged against for not caring about the things you were speaking of in your original post.

If your friend is like me, we probably know each other.....I live outside of Jackson:)

my most favorite phrase is (land resorts and cruises)

regarding food...

oh they don't make it that way at home,,, well hello Dorthy you are not home, and if you are trying to feed 3000 people from all over the world you are not going to please them all.

...well how come thier meat does not taste like ours,,,, or crabbing about how strong the coffee or what ever.

how come i can not get a double cheese burger and where is the closest Macdonalds...

gessh people you are on vacation and choose to go to another country, they may not speak english, thier food is what they eat every day, thier culture is different . my favorite.... the rules of the road are way different than ours.. some counties the stop lights are decorations or only red and green , horns are used as turn signals, 6 on a morotrcycle with a goat and a dog really is not unusual for them... You are a guest in thier country no right to critise what or how they do things.

We were on tour last spring in Hong Kong we saw a Porsche PanAmera. A big four door. I commented to my wife I had never seen one before in the flesh. A gentleman next to us said, "I'm from LA and we see those Porsche all of the time, we also have Mercedes, and BMW" Of course I couldn't help myself and said No S**t?

On the ship there was an entertainer that was starting a museum in Indianapolis called something like the American Songbook Museum. One lady in the audience asked, "Why would you think to put a Museum out in the sticks?". Of course she was from "The City". (New York)

I do get a kick out of people that say where they are from and you have the feeling they expect to hear trumpets or something.

I was just being comical.

Actually I think my friend is pretty much what you would expect from Jackson, lol! At least from what he tells me... we don't discuss politics or any stances on anything, always just kept it light!

I hear that. I work in "the city" and live in a suburb 5 mins from the beach where there are plenty of "those" cars, hell I drive one on that list... but I am always careful not to come off like a snob or a pretentious *******. I don't think it's cool to try and belittle someone nor do I offer my 2 cents unless asked. I have had the good fortune to be exposed to much of what this world has to offer, but it is no better or more rich of a life experience than someone who farms, fishes, or swings a hammer and is traveling out of the country for the first time. They know many joys that I have not been exposed to myself. We are in this experience together on a cruise, leave "who you are" back at home! (stepping off soapbox)

These kinda of Kansas references get me. " Dorothy" just because I am from KS doesn't mean I am an idiot. We have actually come a long way from the cow poke towns that are always portrayed in KS. We actually have cars, casinos, Nascar, & lots of other meaningless crud. So why do people do the "OZ" references?

What is up ????? No one was making fun of anybody. Perhaps I didn't read your post thoroughly enough, because I mistook it to be about certain things, habits, foods etc... pertaining to certain states. I am the one that made the grits post. I am originally from the South where grits are a common staple, as well as fried green tomatoes, okra, corn bread, black-eyed peas and collards. The comment was not to put down anyone or any particular state. I was just referencing the fact that it's pretty darn hard to get that type of food here in the Midwest. That's all. No harm meant to anyone.

I did not read the Miami thread that you keep referencing so I don't know what's up with that but, wow, lighten-up a little.

BTW, At least in Mississippi they serve their grits with shrimp.

:):)

I so agree. The post about Miami made me laugh, because, I am guessing that most of the people that the OP was talking about, aren't from Miami originally.

Glad it made you "snort"- I put "cars" in there to be funny. Mostly, I just get tired of the OZ references. Maybe the reference has nothing to do with KS. But we hear it so often we take offense.
