Shipping Luggage

Has anyone ever shipped luggage to a hotel pre cruise? We will be making a weekend stop prior to our cruise in another city and then flying on to the cruise port. It would be much easier to take our carryon luggage and shipping one big suitcase to arrive at the hotel prior to the cruise. Since we would be taking two flights it would cost $50 on the airlines anyway. Comments from anyone who has done this?
