Romy40 Posted August 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Anyone done this Princess Excursion in Hilo? Rainbow Falls, Wailuku River & Kaumana Caves We are trying to determine if we are "fit" enough to do it. If you have to climb down 20 steep steps, don't you have to climb up 20 steep steps?? And yet the website's description does not say. hmmmmm Opinions?
twocats Posted August 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2012 I am surprised that no one has answered, love to know it myself. Where are all the past Hawaiian cruisers?
Addict Cruiser Posted August 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2012 I actually started a small tour company on the Big Island and those stops are included in one of my tours. First things first...the Kaumana Cave is a real nice lava tube that is amazing to see. The steps are steep, yes, but there is a sturdy railing to hold on to. I have been down there in wet weather and have not noticed any slippery steps or rocks. Once you make it to the bottom of the steps, you continue into the cave. Here is where you'll need to watch your step. If you take it slow, you will do just fine. About a month ago I helped a 71 year old women into the cave and she said it was wonderful. Rainbow Falls are real nice on a sunny morning. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Mahalo!
Romy40 Posted August 3, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Dear Addict Cruiser: Thank you for the response! So, do you climb back up those steep steps?
Addict Cruiser Posted August 3, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Yes, you do go back up the same way you went down. They are made of concrete and pretty steep (not as steep as a ladder). If you take your time it really is not bad. There usually is never anyone there, so taking your time should not be a problem. The hand rail makes it very doable. Don't hesitate to ask any other questions - I love helping!
