Victoria Pub tour-NCL need local advice

The cruise line wants $67 pp to take us to three local pubs. I figure we can get there and back a lot cheaper on our own. We're not big drinkers but I think it might be fun to spend a Saturday night in a pub just hangin' out with the locals. Can anyone recommend a good place to go?

(I also posted this on the Northwest board but I don't know how much traffic that board gets.)

I would go to Spinnakers brew pub it would be best to get a cab from the ship or you could try Swan's it is in old town also maybe try The Canoe Club I have't been there but it is said to be quite good. All these pubs brew their own beer I would start with Spinnakers first it was the first in house brew-pub in Canada it also has a resturant there but stick to the pub part all these pubs serve traditional type of beers.

As it is with everything on a cruise it depends on how much time you are, but seeing as I live in Victoria, this is the way I would like to do it. Your ship is going to arrive at Ogden Point, it would be about a five - ten dollar cab ride to go to Fisherman's Harbour. If it is a nice day and you are not in a hurry you could take a Kabuki Kab for about $20. http://www.kabukikabs.com/ From the wharf outside of Barb's fish and chip shop, catch a water ferry to Spinnakers across the bay. http://www.harborferries.com/ You will get a chance to see the busy inner harbour and the 'real' side of Victoria. Spinnakers is a great pub, with moderately good food. I like their fries though. http://www.spinnakers.com/

After Spinnakers, go back onto the water ferry and go to the Hyak air stop on the ferry route. From there walk up the hill through the crafts market infront of the maritime museum to the Irish Times Pub and Oyster Bar on Government Street. This is a fun pub with a tonne of atmosphere. From here you can walk down Government Street to the Inner Harbour. If you are still in the mood for a pint you can go over to the Sticky Wicket on Douglas Street. However, for a bit more of the old style of Victoria, drop into the Empress and go to the Bengal Lounge for an old style afternoon drink. From there its a cab ride back to the ship.

There are plenty of places along the way to stop and load your liver. These are just my current fav's.

I would love to go to Spinnakers, but I am concerned about the time. My ship doesn't even dock until 7 pm. Realistically we probably won't be able to get off the ship until 7:30 or 8 pm. Is there enough time to go to Spinnakers? If not, what else is there to do (with such little time)?

It is okay to go to Spinnakers at night, you will just need to take a taxi and it will be about a 20 minute ride. The bigger question is would it be worth it? I don't think so IMO. There are great pubs downtown and you are better off saying in the inner harbour area.

Have a great time.
