Lattitude or Longitude Question!!!

When flushed, do toilets swirl clockwise in both the northern and the southern hemispheres? Similarly, is the swirl clockwise for both the eastern and the western hemisphere?

We are taking a norhtbound Alaskan cruise starting June 17, 2005 on the Celebrity 'Summit' and want to know whether we should push down or pull up on the toilet handle when flushing.

Toilets on the newer ships don't swirl. The water is sucked down the bog before it has a chance to make up its mind which way to go!

They SWOOSH onboard ships.

 

However, yes, water "downunder" does swirl the opposite way from the Northern Hemisphere.
