HELP! Car Rental ?

We leave next Sunday on the Fantasy!!

Our cruise is only part of an extended stay in Florida so we are renting a vehicle both before and after the cruise.

Has anyone done this before and could you tell me how close in proximity are the rental agencies. Is it withing walking distance from the port or will we need a shuttle, cab, bus, horse and carriage, donkey, :D or whatever to get us from point A to point B?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Some of the rental agencies provide van/shuttle service to/from the port. We did this in Tampa. The shuttle picked us up at the port and brought us to the rental office....I don't remember which agency we used, but there were other agency shuttles picking up people too. You'll need to e-mail the different offices and ask if they provide this. Just look up rates for the different car rental agencies and you'll find their contact information.

We rented a car from Enterprise. Very misleading!!! They told me several times that they were at the port. This was not the case. We drove to the Miami Port to drop off the car and board our ship. There were NO rental car agencies at the port. Finally we were told that we had to go back over the bridge. We drove around in circles until a very nice gentelman escorted us to Enterprise, which was actually inside of a Hyatt hotel. Never, ever did they mention anything about the Hyatt!!!! I was so mad and let them know it. They said that they used to be at the port, but that was before 9/11......very misleading.

On the up side, they did have a shuttle service to take us to the port after dropping the car off.

Did the local office tell you that or the regional office? I ask only because when I was making arrangements, the regional office told me there was no shuttle service, but when I contacted the local office, they told me they did. It's kind of like talking to the 800 line for a hotel chain, rather than talking to the specific hotel. You get different, misleading answers. Glad it worked out after all that stress!

I'm guessing you're going out of Port Canaveral. We always rent a car at the airport. (orlando) We've used Avis and Budget. We found Budget to be a little cheaper online. Very easy to do. They're drop off is about a mile from the port. You can drop it off in the am before your cruise. They'll shuttle you over to the port free of charge. Then they'll have vans running all the time after you get back. They'll tell you where they'll be waiting. Then they'll bring you back to their agency and u can rent another car going back. Then just drop it off at the airport when you're done. Very easy to do!

Both Avis and Budget are pretty close to the port. Some people say it's at the port, but it's not.

I think when you're looking it up online, it's Cape Canaveral too.

Sorry, I didn't respond earlier. Both the local and national office told me they were at the port. I called the local office for our return reservation and the national when I made our reservation for pickup at the airport when we arrived. I even called the local office 2 days before we left to confirm, and agian asked if they were indeed at the port and they said "Yes we are at the Port" I don't think so....... Oh I was so mad!!!!

I'd be mad too! Scary that the local office doesn't know where they're located! Or, trying to get business by saying they're at the port.
