MLA21 Posted August 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Hello hello! We will be on Liberty of the Seas on Sunday, Sept. 2nd. Can anyone provide information on the best way to get to Cannes? Is it even possible/smart to do this by ourselves? Would we have enough time to hang out on the beach and grab lunch in Cannes? If you suggest the train.. can you provide links to train schedules? Thanks again for your help!
MLA21 Posted August 9, 2012 Author #2 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Oh and is it worth it to go on a Sunday? Would St. Tropez be better?
Rare Hlitner Posted August 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Hello hello! We will be on Liberty of the Seas on Sunday, Sept. 2nd. Can anyone provide information on the best way to get to Cannes? Thanks again for your help! The train takes about 1:15. The easiest site for US folks to use is the raileurope.com site. You could also use the French railroad site of sncf.com. It takes about 10 min to walk from the Cannes train station to the beach area where there are plenty of places to "grab lunch" in mostly higher price ranges :) Keep in mind that the cafes/restaurants close to the heart of the beach along the Croisette do generally cost more money (sometimes a lot more) whereas there are plenty of more reasonably priced places a few blocks away. Since you are from Florida I should add that the beach in Cannes would not even be considered a 2nd rate beach in FL. Hank
MLA21 Posted August 10, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Good point about the beaches. I'm also concerned that because it's a Sunday the trains won't be running as much, and we'll only end up with like an hour in Cannes. We may need to save Cannes and St. Tropez for a separate trip and make that port a day on the ship. Thanks for your help!
Rare Hlitner Posted August 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2012 The beach thing is kind of interesting. Once folks start traveling in Europe they quickly discover that many famous beaches (and many not famous beaches) are quite awful by US standards. When you walk on the long sandy beaches that we take for granted on the East Coast it is hard to get excited about many Riviera beaches with their pebbles, rocks, etc. Cannes actually has some real sandy beaches but they are nothing compared to what you have in Florida. The best European beaches (with clean water) is to be found on various islands (such as some of the Greek Islands) which is why many Europeans flock to places like Rhodes, Mallorca, Mykonos, etc. Hank
MLA21 Posted August 16, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Hlitner, you've been such a great help so far that I am obliged to ask you all of my new questions! I researched getting to Cannes from Toulon and found that there is a train that leaves Toulon at 945 and will get us in Cannes at 11. From there we will (take a taxi?) go to the private beaches and reserve sunbeds and have lunch. Then we will take the train that leaves at 3pm and returns us to Toulon at 415. Questions: 1) How far is the Toulon port from the Toulon train station... can we walk, or do we need to get a taxi? 2) How do we get from the Cannes train station to the private beaches? Are taxis easily available? 3) Are we able to just walk up and rent a sunbed, or should we reserve something ahead of time? 4) How difficult is it to get back to the Cannes train station from the beaches? 5) Are there taxis that hang around the Toulon train station that we can then take back to the port? Thanks so much for your help!!
