FLsunshinegal Posted August 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2012 We only have a day there and want to know what is close enough to see. We'd rather take a private tour than a ship's tour, but haven't docked her before and don't know what "not to miss"! Thanks!
Rare fabnfortysomething Posted August 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Toulon was a bit of a surprise as it was a lot more picturesque than expected it to be.There was the "petit train de Toulon" the road based tourist transport which was waiting outside the terminal to take on a tour of Toulon we chose to use provencewinetours for the day which took us to 3 wineries around the area and a lunchtime stop at Cassis a traditional fishermans village which is now a tourist trap all in all well recommended
grayjay Posted August 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Depends on the ship you're on whether you'll dock in Toulon. I was very surprised, for example, when our "Celebrity Solstice" docked in Sanary-sur-Mer which is a 30-minute shuttle away from Toulon itself. Rare mskaufman Posted August 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I was on Liberty and also docked at Sanary. We took the ship's tour to Aix En Provence. We felt that it was worth the $50 we paid.
barbon2 Posted August 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2012 Hi, How far in advance did you find out where you were docking. We are planning to hire a driver there and want to make sure they pick us up at the correct spot. Barb
planktin Posted August 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2012 We took the Petit Train Tour and loved it! We hopped on the French language tour and had a blast, even if we couldn't understand it:). The tour is short so we had time to wander the streets, have lunch and walk around the market. Toulon was the biggest surprise of our cruise. It was charming and we loved it. There are some pictures on the blog in the link on my signature, if you're interested.
Rare mskaufman Posted August 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2012 A previous cruiser posted it on the Board where the ship docks. I have found that the drivers know where each ship docks.
katiepe Posted August 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2012 A previous cruiser posted it on the Board where the ship docks. I have found that the drivers know where each ship docks. I think that was the question..different lines dock at different areas..some lines dock at Toulon and some at La Seyne sur Mar I too am interested in which lines use which or do you know in advance?
