Rare BillOh Posted August 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2012 In case this might help someone in the future: I just finished the certification, about to reserve my first cruise dive for spring. I decided to go to the shooting range last weekend. My normal over the ear hearing protection wasn't in my bag, so i bought sponge ear plugs at the range. They didn't fit right, they kept falling out. I couldn't hear for 12 hours after, still have a strange noise in my ear, but my ear drums are fine, I can still dive. Rare BillOh Posted August 15, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 15, 2012 I meant to say I visited the ENT because I was afraid the ear drum was torn. He/she/they specifically tested pressures and gave me the all clear.
Kryssa Posted August 16, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Phew... When I started diving I had trouble clearing and someone told me to give up the Q-tips. Gosh, that was hard. You'd think I was quitting smoking the way my hand practically shook after a shower wanting one! 2 years later I've pretty much adjusted... and my ears clear a lot easier, too! Take care of your ears and they will take care of you :)

My doctor did recommend the Murine ear wax removal system and it does work. So far in the few hours I've been underwater in 10-30ft depths I've had no trouble clearing.
