sweetcurves Posted August 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I haven't cruised either and am also going on a 6 day but have 2 days pre-cruise in Ft Lauderdale. So far I'm bringing: 1 formal dress 1 semi formal dress 4 or 5 other dresses that are nice enough for MDR but also could be paired with flip flops and still be cute. 2 skirts (one black and one black and tan striped) 4 pair of shorts (2 casual and 2 "khaki") I'm bringing swimsuit pieces...3 tops and two bottoms. I hate putting on a wet swimsuit. One coverup dress. Two "jackets", they are both lightweight knit loose wrap style jackets (one black and one navy and off white striped) I also have a cute romper that I'm bringing. I will bring a mish mash of tank tops and dressier tops that could be worn with the "khaki" shorts--probably 7-10. Shoes...I won't even get into as I think I'll end up bringing 5 or 6 pairs (not including the ones I'll wear on the plane), but in my defense, most of them are flat and don't take up a lot of space. I'm trying to limit myself to one pair of heels. I love my heels!

RWolver672 Posted August 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2012 Not being a woman but being married to one, I can tell you that on sea days, most of the day you'll probably be in your bathing suit. Do a lot of mixing and matching. DW isn't in to dresses or skirts. (The only dress she ever owned was white and had a train!) She wears dress slacks and changes the tops. After dinner we go back to our cabin and change back into whatever we wore during the day.

NewKansasKruiser Posted August 17, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I agree. After sitting in the sun or sitting in the casino, no way would I wear the same top/pants again. And I hope the other 4,499 new best friends of mine on the ship also do me the same favor. :) I cannot wear the same thing twice, so you don't want to see my packing list.:o
Cinnamon2 Posted August 17, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I bring one casual outfit (shorts or capris) for each day and another outfit for dinner for each day. Plus 2 changes of underwear per day. One or two bathing suits, one pair of dress shoes, one pair of sandals and I wear my sneakers and jeans on travel day. I stuff my layers of sweater/jacket into my luggage pockets in the airport. We usually cruise in the winter from the north. I spend most of my day in casual clothes, maybe put on bathing suit for a while but then back to casual clothes. Before dinner I like to shower and wash my hair to get the sea air salt and/or chlorine out and then dress for dinner - either dressy clothes or not, depending on the evenings suggested dress. Basically, I have planned out all my clothes - just don't decide which outfit to wear what day until I'm ready to dress. I also throw in one extra outfit just in case - and I've usually been happy to have an extra. Of course add all the toiletries, camera, etc.

needabreakcanada Posted August 17, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted August 17, 2012 Seems like I am on track. Will have to remember a jacket and a pair of yoga pants. I usually wear black dress pants out to dinner- but this will be a treat to wear dresses.
JWGrayson Posted August 17, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I agree. After sitting in the sun or sitting in the casino, no way would I wear the same top/pants again. And I hope the other 4,499 new best friends of mine on the ship also do me the same favor. :) Where to start....Most have heard of Rick Steves', who has some wonderful books and travel guides. He suggests that you wear each shirt twice and pants 3 times. A Caribbean cruise is not formal! Even on Elegant Night you will find people in shorts. But, some do dress up, it is your choice, not a requirement. In April we were on the Dream for 7 days and drove to the port, so the amount of luggage didn't mater. Each of us brought a large suitcase filled with what we thought we would need. At the end of the crusie we had enough clean clothes left to take a 2nd 7 day cruise. In May we went for another 7 days, but this time we each brought a 21" carry-on type suitcase. We both did fine and still had a clean outfit untouched. At night I would wear a nice pair of Chinos and a Polo shirt to the MDR and show. I'd take the outfit off and hang it up when we got back to our cabin. The pants could easily be worn 3 night without offending anyone. The next day I would wear the Polo shirt with a pair of short or jeans. The shorts or jeans could be used a few days as well. We don't hang out in places where people smoke, not do I wear these clothes to layout in the sun. And in honor of John Heald I changes my underpants daily. :D You can take whatever you want. While we are really trying to get packing down to a science since we are doing a 27 day cruise in Oct, and 48 days in Feb. Thank goodness we will be Platinum then and can get some free laundry. John Notice: The opinion expressed above are mine and mine alone, well except for what I got from Rick Steves.
MrPatches Posted August 17, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I cannot wear the same thing twice, so you don't want to see my packing list.:o Unless you're doing manual labor, showers, deodorant and perfume usually do the trick. Maybe DW just doesn't sweat. :) But, there's the laundry and rinsing things out too............

I did not criticize people wearing the same thing over and over again....please do not criticize me for not wanting to. We are all different and all have our own opinions. I really hate it when people call you out for yours. You know "I cannot wear the same thing twice, so you don't want to see my packing list." sounds like it's a bit critical of those who do. In any case, I wasn't criticizing you, but just letting others know that it is possible to travel light. I went all over the world with a backpack.
