Everything Breakaway!(LIVE on 4/28)

Hmmmmmm, two reviews out and both complain about the spa.... Well I guess that helps me with my decision not to buy the pass :)

Gambee, would you please share the links?

Only reviews I found were positive, and always like to hear 2 sides. I'm still trying to decide as well.

Thanks :)

And if anyone has the M6 cabin 8122 booked before 6/09, beg, borrow, or steal a couple of loungers for me!

Seabird, you're in luck! 8122 is the one with the loungers in the photo I posted! So you're all set unless NCL takes the loungers away!

Fabulous :D:D You have made my DAY!!

And I mean, what type of deranged individual would have loungers TAKEN AWAY

Yeah I've been trying to find these reviews as well, but I can't seem to locate any...?

Edit: there are these reviews from the CC review page: http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=ship&ShipID=642, though I must say I'm not at all encouraged by what I read...

And the S4-Suite in The Haven: unfortunatly a lot of money for a big disappointment

Wow! That's a tiny tub! But thanks so much for showing us this way!

Wonder what the S6 tubs look like. They are a different shape.

Yeah, and I'd venture to say that he isn't a terribly tall gentleman, either :D...which means if you're over 5-10 or 6', you definitely ain't gettin' in that tub. And its so small that if you filled it and were able to sit in it, you'd probably displace half the water!

I agree, some of the reviews were not great regarding the spa, although the last part of this reviewers comment is promising:

Lots of things weren't working properly in the spa area: hot tub wasn't working at all and the one time it was on, it was only warm; hot seats never got hot like on the Jewel; sauna and saunarium weren't always hot enough either; salt room seems to be not working--or if it is, then a sign should be placed IN THE ROOM explaining how it works and what to expect. Steam was wonderful. I was also VERY impressed that when a complaint was made about the steps into the pool being slippery, they were fixed very quickly. Sea days may be a problem....our sea days weren't so bad, and the pool was closed for over one day due to water coming out. Addendum: everything was basically working by the time we left the ship....the spa was amazing and is a GREAT deal for the cruise....book it when you get on before space runs out.

I think I'll give it a shot. I've enjoyed it during past sailings, and I'll give the benefit of the doubt that the 'kinks' were still being worked out on the TA. Hopefully I can snag one pre-boarding on in the terminal as I have in the past. Would appreciate hearing from anyone on the next 3 cruises if this is available. :)

I was actually referring to not only spa reviews but to the ship in general. Definitely NOT thrilled about what I hear regarding smoke smell, not only in the casino itself (which is a given) but the fact that evidently it can be smelled throughout the atrium area. I think I also came across complaints of smoking in the Waterfront area. I did not think this was allowed, and even if it is I am really angered that smokers would have the balls to light up in that area. So, if true, then that cancels out the 2 main public areas for us as far as walking or otherwise hanging out. Great.

I agree with you. I have two major problems with this--one if the smoke is bad in the atrium (and just imagine her at full capacity) then those who pay extra to dine in Le Bistro and the like will get to experience their lungs being filled with other people's toxic fumes while trying to enjoy their dinner. Secondly, if they do not enforce no smoking on the waterfront--this is a huge issue for everyone who pays extra to dine on the waterfront in the premium restaurants while inhaling nasty smoke. If people choose not to smoke they should not have to succumb to it because of others. IMHO

Question I haven't seen addressed , although I could have easily missed it.

In the deck plan diagrams, as seen below, the cabins alternate with either the "+" or triangle symbol, which according to the legend, is supposed to signify sleeps 3 or 4. However, when you hold your cursor over the cabin for a description, I just noticed they all say 4. I had been assuming the ones that said 4 had the pullman type bed in addition to the sofa. But now I don't know if they all have the pullman. And if they do, has anyone seen a picture of it pulled out?? Is it over the sofa?? Also, do all the mini's have King size beds, or only the ones that sleep 3??

deck8.jpg.d67f698963e3414cf985667cdaf8ae6e.jpg

Also, another discrepency I just found. The deck plan page cabin description says King size bed for catagory M6, where as in the stateroom descriptions on the Breakaway home page for an M6, it says Queen size. Does anyone here have the real scoop?

Thanks

I didn't smell any smoke inside. Even the Casino wasn't a problem.

As for the Waterfront, I'm not aware of it being a no smoking area. The presence of ashtrays would suggest that it isn't.

If it is no smoking then the it isn't just a case of Staff not policing it, but of them breaking the rules too.

Yeah, I have noticed,(but tried not to ;) ), some of the negative general comments as well. I'm trying not to have preconceived opinions, and just hoping, once again, that these were just Inaugural 'kinks'.

As for the smoking odor issue, I agree with you 100%, and I am an occasional smoker myself. Personally, I don't think smoking should be allowed indoors in public spaces at all, casino or no casino, on land OR at sea. And as for smoking on the Waterfront near the restaurants, especially considering how 'tight' the space appears to be, NO,NO,NOOOO. And VERY inconsiderate of those that do.

At least you have your Very Large M6 Balcony, which we now know will most likely have loungers, to relax on.:D

And even if your neighbor is a smoker, hopefully between the tall, solid, dividers, and the breeze off the bow, you won't even notice.

I think that early on many of the staterooms were marked as having kings - We have a midship mini suite on the 14th level MA Cat. Early on in the planning process it said it was a king and then one day it just changed to say queen. I freaked out here on CC and was told that with the 2 attached beds its kind of in between a queen and king in size. I would not be surprised if it was still listed as both sizes depending on where on the website.

People that smoke need to respect non smoking areas. People that don't smoke need to respect a smokers right to smoke in a smoking area and everyone needs to stop whining about it!!

That is my thought exactly, if NCL designed it to be a smoking area then that is what it is (non smoker here). Granted I wish the water front wasn't but it is what it is.

Fair enough, but on the same token no one should get upset when NCL gets bad reviews for their smoke filled public spaces, and in particular the much hyped Waterfront, which is designed as a unique selling point of this ship. And you can bet that if I'm in the Waterfront eating a nice meal and someone developed decides to light up near me, I will sure as hell complain to the waitstaff AND the smoker. Just because the rules say you can doesn't mean you can't do the classy and courteous thing and smoke elsewhere. I mean if I had baby or child who was naturally loud and messy, am I allowed to bring it to a fancy restaurant? Technically yes, but would I do so and disturb other's dining experiences? No way.

And regarding the Atrium, I don't care if people smoke in the casino or any other designated smoking location, what we all have a problem with that is the fact that that smoke can and will very easily draft into the non smoking areas of the Atrium.

I don't want to go down the rabbit hole, but if you knowingly sit beside a smoking area then I don't see how the smoker is in the wrong. You knowingly booked a ship that allows smoking and what that means regarding smoke traveling to atriums and balconies etc.

To be honest it annoys me when people complain about something they are totally aware may happen. If people are so concerned for their health why book a ship that could threaten it. Its like having a nut allergy and ordering pecan pie

Just got a call from NCL CAS. Because of a "computer glitch" I was moved from my MA mini-suite with the balconette, to a Deck 9 MB mini-suite with a balconette and a view of the roof of the waterfront.

I was told there was nothing she could do, but I was getting $100 OBC.

I can't believe 10 days away they realize that there is a problem.

Well, I guess it is better today than when you check in at the port and you get $100 to boot!!!!

Ok. I usually studiously avoid these debates. But I simply do not understand why a non smoker who is bothered by smoke would choose to dine in a smoking area, and then complain to both the staff and the smoker if someone actually smoked in the smoking designated area. And I don't understand the reference to smokers doing the classy and courteous thing by going elsewhere when they already are In a smoking permitted area. Those comments portend a sense of entitlement that a non smoker believes he or she should be able to go and do whatever he or she pleases wherever he or she pleases, and everyone else should clear out of the way. If you do not like smoke, and the waterfront is smoking permissible, then ask for a table inside. If you do smoke, confine your smoking to areas in which it s permitted. Why is that so hard?

I should add, by the way, that I don't know the smoking policy in the outside dining areas, and they weren't used in the Transatlantic.

There were ashtrays out in the outside bars (certainly outside Maltings and I think Shakers as well) and a few people were smoking on the walkway, especially around this area.

Those areas shouldn't affect diners, and people would have to wait until next week to see what happens in the outside dining areas.

Again, I didn't notice smoke in the Casino at all, and I walked through it many times a day. I'd be very surprised if people smelt smoke in the Atrium, as it is downstairs from the Casino and o'Sheehans is in the way.

I try to avoid smoky areas, and did move at one point from outside Maltings before we sailed from Southampton, so there was little wind to disperse it. I have no worries about smoke if I travel again on the Breakaway though, and I'd encourage people to see for themselves rather than getting too concerned about a couple of reviews.
