Self Guided iphone Tour Apps

As I said in one of my previous posts I am new to smart phones but I was wondering what experience those cruiser that are more savvy with smart phones have had with self guided tours Apps that can be down loaded to your smart phone and run using the GPS in the Smart phone and need no WiFi connection while using them, thus no roaming data charges. We are considering using some of these Apps and not purchasing shore excursions in some of the ports of call.

 

There is one free app by Rick Steves 'Audio Europe' that looks very interesting, particularly for Athens, Greece and Venice, Italy. The other two are GPSMyCity and Triposo, both of these Apps have good reviews.

 

I would appreciate some feedback from more savvy fellow cruisers that have used these types of Apps as to how they actually worked for you.
