MarleneAm Posted August 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Afternoon all! We will be there in October off the Wind Star and are looking for things to do on our own. Was wanting a water taxi/tour to Cinque Terre but can't find anything on our own. Any thoughts? Thanks! __________________________________________________________ They have public ferries that go from Portovenere up the Cinque Terre coast; they stop in Vernazza and at Monterousso and at other towns if asked. I don't know if they still run in October and I don't know how things are in Vernazza and Monterusso after the landslides. You can take a train from town to town and explore as you want. Perhaps more recent vistors can give an update on conditions.
kuldalai Posted August 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Portovenere is a very attractive coastal village . Walk out at ground level along the foreshore to the castle at the end. Climb the staircase to the upper walkway that runs along the top of the wall . Look down into Lord Byrons Grotto . Stay on the upper level and walk back towards the town and it will become a walking street lined with shops and restaurants that will bring you back to where you started . Ferries from Portovenere to the CT run from April to early November each year . Ferries depart Portovenere for the four villages of the CT at : 1000, 1100, 1200. Travel time 60 minutes to Monterosso. Return from Monterosso to Portovenere at: 1210, 1430, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1750 . From Portovenere the towns of the CT in order are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso . (Corniglia is up on a hill and not served by ferry.) In Monterosso the ferries arrive in OLD Monterosso, and trains in NEW Monterosso . The two town halves are joined by a shared use pedestrian / road tunnel . All five villages are served by trains linking along the CT to La Spezia . Urban Bus service P departing from La Spezia from a stop marked P in Via Garabaldi near Corso Cavour . Departs at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour . Travel time to Portovenere is 30 minutes .
