fendbass Posted May 17, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Please keep in mind that these are totally Subjective comments, not intended to influence someone one way or another, and offered for information only. My wife and I decideded to take her 8-year old grandson (and his mom and dad) on a 3-day Bahamas cruise on Disney Wonder. While it is a beautiful ship, there were several shortcomings that will keep us off of that ship in the future. There is an adult pool area- GREAT idea... except there are no steps into the pool, just ladders. If your hands are slippery from sun tan lotion, or you have problems with mobility, this will make you think twice about using the pool. Getting in is no problem, but getting out... that's another matter. Also, there are some adults who do not drink beer, or alcohol to extremes, and for who the idea of unlimited free soda without a soda card is, once again, a GREAT idea... however, from the adult pool area, you have to go all the way to the back of the ship to get your soda, then navigate through the munchkins around the Mickey and Goofy pools with your full cups, trying not to spill on anyone. Would it have been so hard to make the free soft drinks available from the adult bar as well? Lastly, when there are the main shows going on in the Disney theater, everything else just shuts down. There is no other entertainment anywhere if you don't want to see Hercules, or the Golden Mickey awards. On every other ship we have been on, there was always a lounge where you could listen to live music, or go to a movie, or something else. And, the seats in the main theater were designed for smaller people than me, but that is more my fault that theirs. I found the food to be good and service to be adequate, if not spectacular. I really liked the idea of having 2 bathrooms in the cabin. It is certainly not worth the premium price we'd have to pay to take the Disney cruise
jnnifer01 Posted May 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2005 To each his own- that's what the boards are for ;) DH and I just sailed the Wonder again for the 2nd time in 3 months and loved it. Granted, nothing is perfect, but Disney does a darn good job- better than most we've been on. The only thing I have to contest from your review is the options for entertainment. We never attended the shows in the main theater but always found something to do. Route 66 was always hopping and if we didn't want to do that, the movie theater (which we frequented) was always rolling. I'm sorry you didn't have a better time than you did. Maybe Disney will work out some of the kinks when they build their new ship- I can't wait! :D
CruisingAgain Posted May 29, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2005 We skipped some of the shows and found other entertainment - my son always found the place with a band where he could dance. I guess every lounge did not have something happening but there was always at least one place after dinner - while the show was going on. But if it's the casino that you were missing that's another story. Personally I'm glad that a casino isn't wasting space on the Disney ships, but I'm obviously not a gambler. The other comment I didn't quite understand - about steps into the pool. I've never seen steps on a cruise ship - always ladders. the pools are all so small that I don't see them putting in steps - but maybe I've missed this on other ships. fendbass Posted June 1, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted June 1, 2005 Except for the Carnival Jubilee, all the ships I have been on have had steps going into the pool; however, my experience has been limited to newer ships

The adult pools on RCCI's Voyager class have steps going into them. I agree. It is much easier to use steps than a ladder.

It is certainly not worth the premium price we'd have to pay to take the Disney cruise I did not feel the complaints you had but I did want to say this. I too have to be carfeul getting in and out of the pool. On Disney one end was fairly shallow and so I just stepped in and did not need the ladder. You must have went in from the side where the water was deeper.
dawne577 Posted June 4, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2005 We've loved both our Disney cruises and found the service to be a little better on Disney than on the Caribbean Princess (our only other cruise). We too have a minor complaint about the Disney pools: they're too shallow. but that, again, is personal preference.
