Feelin' Nauti' Posted September 5, 2012 #101 Share Posted September 5, 2012 The "My Awesome Bar Program" package, as it's being called, costs $42.95 per person per day plus an automatic 15% gratuity of $6.44 and can be used to order all wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced at $10 and lower. Full bottles of wine and champagne, as well as wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails priced above $10, are available at a 25% discount. A caveat: Each passenger ages 21 years and over in the same cabin must purchase the beverage package -- a rule presumably enacted to prevent cabin mates from "sharing" a package. Passengers under 21 cannot buy the package as passengers must be 21 years or older to consume alcohol on Carnival ships Where is everyone coming up with a limit of drinks?

GROUCHPUSS Posted September 5, 2012 #104 Share Posted September 5, 2012 If OP comes back, would you please ask what if one the the room is pregnant or another med condition that they can not drink, what happens? Please post the answer.

Please post the answer. Im not sure, but it would seem to make sense that the same rules for the open bar card would apply All adults (age 21+) must purchase the open bar program. Upon request, we may extend the Unlimited Soda Program in lieu of the Open Bar Program for non-drinkers (i.e., AA members, staff, pregnant guests, etc). So they might make the person buy the soda card, hopefully someone on Victory or Splendor or maybe someone could just ask JH for clarification. I have not seen it in writing anywhere, so I suspect, you are told at the point of purchase because more than one person has given this information. misstopgun Posted September 5, 2012 #110 Share Posted September 5, 2012 For the comments regarding "sharing", I would assume they would handle that as they do the soda program. If you are caught sharing they can suspend the use of the card and you will not recieve a refund. I too thought this might be a great program when I read about it originally. Then I considered how long you usually have to wait for bar service in the dining room when you are buying your drinks out right. I wouldn't think that service would be any better if you purchased the program. Bottom line is they just don't have enough bar servers in the dining room. The new program will only make the service time longer than what it already is. The final straw that changed my mind was when it was disclosed that it doesn't cover bottled water. When in the casino, I like to stager my drinks with water in between. I also need lots of water when returning from port to avoid dehydration. I probably average 6 bottles of water a day so that would add an additional $18 to my tab after buying the program. That just isn't a deal anymore. I could easily have gotton my money's worth by consuming at least 7 drinks per day, but I would have to pay for the additional water. I don't drink tap water at home and will definatly not drink it on a ship.

Happy to hear there are consequences for those who are trying to cheat the system and possibly ruin it for those of us that are happy to have it and planning to abide by the rules. That way you could have a water bottle with you at all times and it would cut down on some of your cost.

However, it might still be a good deal for me. I'll have to look at my old sail and sign bills and factor in a la carte water, to be sure. I didn't notice bar service to be slow on Celebrity with the program, but of course, that is a different line. Add to that, it was my first time on Celebrity, so nothing else to compare to--except other cruise lines. Service seemed to be in line time-wise with what I've received on all other lines. pboedeker Posted September 6, 2012 #122 Share Posted September 6, 2012 I've enjoyed reading all the comments on this thread. I am hoping that this package is available on our Magic cruise in January. My husband and I would be happy to purchase these packages, although I'm not really sure we'll save a ton of money. It will give me the opportunity to try out some new cocktails and not worry about paying $8-10 and then find out I don't like the drink! We'll certainly make out well on Sea Days. We're thinking the Port Days we will break even. We only have 3 ports on the next sailing. If we were on a 6-7 port day sailing, it probably wouldn't be worth it. Really wish bottled water was included.
