Looking for private transportation from London to Harwich port

Hi,

For our cruise in May, from London to Harwich, we took the train and it was very easy. Because it was a Sunday when we came back to Harwich, we used Blackberrycars.com for our trip back to London. We shared with another couple and the cost was similar to taking the train but it was door to door.

Does the train run between London and Harwich on Sundays? We are thinking of traveling to Harwich on a Sunday the day before our cruise. Thanks!

Yes, but in all cases now you need to change trains at "Manningtree" (a couple of stops before "Harwich International".

Example:

dep 11:00 London Liverpool Street Station[LST] platform 9

arr 11:55 Manningtree [MNG] platform 3

dep 12:00 Manningtree [MNG] platform 1

arr 12:17 Harwich International [HPQ] platform 2

Darsura,

In our case they were having engineering works on the rail line for that Sunday. So the service was a bus service which we didn't want to do. On our trip to Harwich we changed in Manningtree. We actually got a little delayed by some switch trouble and spent 50 minutes or so at Manningtree. As your trip gets closer you will need to make sure you find out if there will be Engineering works on the day you want to travel.

Thank you for the info. Trains are not an option for us due to luggage and bad knees!

WE used Discover the South to go from Southampton to LHR with a few stops, including Salisbury, Stonehenge, and even a peak at the Olympics!! They were fabulous - timely (we got off the ship early and the driver was already there, just waiting for us), flexible about itinerary during our hours, pleasant, great vehicle (which accommodated four of us and our luggage), etc. I think our driver's name was James. They can do airport to port transfers with no stops or if you are like us and want to tour a bit on the way, they will do that as well.

Just for background, Discover the South is a part of www.westquaycars.com which many CC cruisers use for simple transfers from Southampton. They put their more experienced / knowledgeable / sociable drivers on the "Discover the South" jobs.

We used the above limo service run by Eddie Manning 2 yrs ago to get from

London to Southampton cruise terminal with a stop at Stonehenge for some sightseeing. We were a family of 4 with extra luggage and I have some mobility issues, so taking the train was not an option. We found the service to be excellent and Mr Manning was extremely responsive when we had to make some last minute changes to the pick up times. We found this service from reading other reports on this forum and the trip advisor

London forum. Traffic was heavy that day and Mr Manning was very pro active in finding alternative roads to our destination, giving us an impromptu tour of the English countryside. We were extremely pleased with the service and his friendliness, and the ride was a highlight of our trip. You might want to consider emailing him to see if this might be an option for yor transfer.

As you will be travelling on a Monday, the journey by train SHOULD be OK.

You would need to take a taxi from your hotel to Liverpool Street station, the trains for Harwich depart on each hour, ie. 10.00 change at Manningtree arrive Harwich 11.17. The ship will be right there!

If you contact me I could give you details of local Harwich taxi firms that might pick up in London.

Thanks for your help. Transportation independently has shown to be quite costly. We have been saving for the trip but did not realize the expenses that are involved just to get to our destination. Which taxi services are good to use to get to the train.?

Just have your hotel call you a black cab, if there aren't any waiting outside.

A few years ago we we were told to take the train from London to Southhampton. We had asked the concierge at our hotel in London (Marriott Renaissance) about the trains a few days before we needed to use them. The concierge said it would be an easy train ride. On the morning of our departure, we took a cab to the train station in London. As soon as we entered this main terminal (can't recall the name) with all our luggage, we discovered that a train strike had started. There was much reduced service. We waited a long time for a train, and found out that instead of a direct ride to Southhampton, we would have to get off at a station and change trains. At the "change" station, we had to run up stairs to another platform with a lot of luggage and barely made it onto an overcrowded train. It was a very frustrating and tiring trip. I would never take the train again, especially with luggage.
