meg9020 Posted May 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2004 My family will be going on a Med cruise in June. I have the envelopes ready for our tips, but I am wondering should I put in american dollars or wait until I get to Europe and withdraw by ATM Euro's. woodofpine Posted May 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2004 The line is USD based and allows tips on cabin account. That said, show your envelope, ask your steward and waiter, then watch'em smile (esp. if you hand'em a 5-er up front)

sailorbill Posted May 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I suggest that you tip in US dollars. That way the amount appears more generous. Since the exchange rate is approximately 1.2 dollars per 1.0 euro, a $100 tip roughly equals 80 euros. And wouldn't you rather give (or get) 100 of something rather than 80 of something else, even though they are of equal value. It is too bad the Italian Lira is a currency of the past. If it was still around, you could give a 60,000 Lira tip instead of a measely $100. Bill

marco Posted May 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I wouldn't go out of my way to get some, but if you have some Euros left at the end of the cruise, I would use them for tipping before I would pay a service fee to have them converted back to US $$$$. Let's say....if you had a 20 Euro left andthe tip you would want to leave was $50, I'd give the 20 Euro note and $
