Sheraton Old San Juan vs. Conrad

We are sailing on RCI Adventure of the Seas in November. Can't decide on either the Sheraton or the Conrad? We are not renting a car. Does anyone have any suggestions on which hotel would be better? Or if there is a another rreasonable, but nice hotel.

Thank you!

The Sheraton in Old San Juan is located right in the heart of Old San Juan. It is close to everything in the city; the waterfront (not a beach though), the shops, and close to the forts. I've never stayed there, but love the location.

The Conrad is located just outside Old San Juan in Condado. The hotel is very modern and the grounds are beautiful. It has a small cove beach that is protected from the rough waves of the Atlantic. It has multiple swimming pools, restaurants, bars, and a nice casino. There are different types of rooms available; including city-view (where you can get a nice view of the ships in port from the balcony, water-view (can't remember the exact name, but they overlook an inlet and the city), and the priciest-ocean view rooms. We had the water view rooms on my first visit and the rooms were quiet with a nice view. On my next stay, I had the cheapest, city-view room which was noisier because it overlooked the street, but it had a great view of the ships docked at the Pan Am pier from the balcony. You can walk to local shops and restaurants here as well or catch the bus for less than $2 into OSJ. A taxi into OSJ is about $9 or so.

I think you can't go wrong with either place, it's just a matter of whether you want to be in the heart of town, but no beach or stay a little further out and have the pools and water.

Either way, enjoy

We stayed in the Sheraton OSJ for two nights prior to our March cruise in 2011. The hotel and room were clean and you could not ask for a better location if you want to explore the historic city. There is a small rooftop pool and reasonable restaurant with a great view of the port. I have not stayed at the Conrad so cannot comment.
