azgkrudi Posted September 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Hi, it's been awhile since we sailed NCL and I am trying to remember how they handle bar tabs. If I recall, they put an automatic gratuity (15% maybe?) on the tab, then you have the option of adding more. Is this correct? We are traveling with our best friends and we like to "imbibe" while on vacation, so I am quite certain we'll rack up a sizable bar bill across the week. For the fun of it, I'd like to know, what was your biggest bar tab after a 7-day cruise? Do tell! :)
reefgirl Posted September 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I can't really remember exactly as it's a painful memory (or maybe it's just the alcohol), but well over $1000.
che5904 Posted September 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Counting 2 wine clinics, 1 margarita clinics. $150 + auto gratuity for the 2 of us.

luddite Posted September 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Did you happen to have a CAS "free" drink card. Nawww. I just asked for a decent beer. It turns out that they had to airlift one in. The explanation was that they only seve crappy beer. Like I didn't already know that!

SuiteCruiser Posted September 15, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I was heading in that direction too :) When I first started cruising, my bar bills were quite high. Now I sail through CAS and my bar bills are minuscule, but my free cruises cost me a fortune ;). When in Vegas, my friends and I always consider how we've done at each casino based on drinks. Occasionally we're ahead, other times I've had two $100.00 margaritas and am ready to try elsewhere.
Davechipp74 Posted September 15, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2012 $18,472.65 It WAS a seven day trip. NICE :D i'd probably wind up buying you a few drinks if i ever met you on a cruise
Davechipp74 Posted September 15, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2012 my biggest bar bill ever was $3,500 (give or take) on a 17 day cruise that was using rum runners like a Kennedy, and having the CAS card
cbannerman Posted September 15, 2012 #13 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I thought I had some high bar bills but $3,500 for 17 days beats my $750 for an 8 night Bermuda cruise. And I was drinking from noon past midnight.
azgkrudi Posted September 15, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Oh man, this is scaring me. I guess maybe we weren't so wrong in cruising the alcohol-and-tip inclusive lines of Regent Seven Seas and Silversea. We got so spoiled. And Regent even includes excursions and airfare! But paying upwards of $10k for two of us before even setting sail started to seem outrageous - we thought we'd go back to "piece meal" and see if we make out better. Will let you know how it turns out!

Will let you know how it turns out! That would totally depend on how much you would normally drink and what you drink. If for example you were paying around $5000 for your suite including tips for your butler, consierge and your DSC. Then were to add approx. $2000 for air and excursions. That would leave $3000 for booze. At approx. $8/cocktail would be 375 drinks, divided by 2 people would be 188 drinks, divided by 7 days would be 26 drinks a day per person. meltingmoments Posted September 16, 2012 #16 Share Posted September 16, 2012 Our bar tab on our recent Epic trip was $340 . That included a wine package, so I thought that wasn't too bad??? ;)
BadKitteh Posted September 16, 2012 #17 Share Posted September 16, 2012 Probably around $300 for 7 days and that was with people buying us drinks very often. If you order a bar set up in your room, you can cut down on a lot of cocktail costs.

I don't indulge anymore, but curious as to why beer is 'crappy'? Is it like a 'watered down' tap beer? If it is bottled beer, is it some 'off-brand'?
