katti michele Posted September 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Has anyone done this recently? We are interested in doing this (through Carnival) in December. We will be in port from 10am-5pm. Carnival says it lasts about 2 hours. Just trying to figure out if we'll have time to do anything before/afterwards. If anyone has a review of this excursion or has seen one, please let me know. I'd love to read personal experiences about it. Thanks! :)
katti michele Posted September 17, 2012 Author #2 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Guess I answered my own question by "fake booking" it on Carnival's website and they tell you it's from 11am-1pm. If anyone has done this and can give me any thoughts on it, that would be greatly appreciated. I'm not into snorkeling or diving, so I figure this will be the best way to go! LamenLaur Posted September 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2012 We did an Atlantis Submarine while we were in St. Thomas in 2009 for our honeymoon. It was really interesting and fun. I don't think I would pay Carnival's prices for it, though, since they jack everything up.
vicocala Posted September 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2012 You can save about ten dollars per person by googling it and booking elsewhere. Save the money for a drink or memorabilia.
Boomermomma Posted September 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2012 We have done the Cozumel Atlantis submarine twice - once as a cruise excursion and once when we stayed there for a family wedding. It is fantastic! We would highly recommend!:D
Rare Paula_MacFan Posted September 20, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2012 It's been several years since we did this excursion, but here's my post from when we returned (2004 - notice the price is much higher now!) ________________________________________ We took the Atlantis Semi-sub excursion at Cozumel last week. We booked thru Princess, and paid $46 each. The vessel was the Mermaid, and it was docked at the International Pier. Our ship was docked at the LaCosta (sp?) pier, so a short taxi ride was required, and was included in the cost. The total excursion took around 2.75 hours with taxi and boat ride. The day was cloudy, which made the water a little hard to see at first, but the skies cleared up by the end of the tour and the sun's rays made it easier to view deeper. We saw a lot of fish, coral, a sea snake, but no barricuda or rays. I was a little disappointed that the colors weren't as vivid as I thought they would be. The boat ride to and from the reef was pretty choppy, and several people felt a little quesy by the time it was done. The tour guide was good. Later in the day, our group went to Chankanaab and snorkelled there. Knowing what I know now, we would have skipped the semi-sub and just went to Chankanaab, because we saw just as many fish and coral in a more enjoyable way. The semi-sub excursion would be good for kids older than 4, and older people who don't want to get into the water to see the marine life. But if you have any inclination to snorkel or just get into the water on your own, I would say save your money.
