needabreakcanada Posted September 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Will be sailing with Royal for first time in 2014 and I am starting my queries early. With my time dining which restaurant do you eat at? Which clubs are non-smoking? Is the whole promenade area (including eateries) non smoking? Please no flame answers, hubby is on cancer watch so there is a real need to avoid such areas. Thanks
megr1125 Posted September 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Will be sailing with Royal for first time in 2014 and I am starting my queries early. With my time dining which restaurant do you eat at? there is only one Main Dining room...generally part of it is reserved for MTD Which clubs are non-smoking? This may vary based on ship/time/itinerary Is the whole promenade area (including eateries) non smoking? I believe so, BUT there may be parts of some bars that allow smoking Please no flame answers, hubby is on cancer watch so there is a real need to avoid such areas. Thanks See above... Personally I am not sure on the smoking question...mainly because your cruise is off in the future, AND things can change based on ship/time/itinerary. The casino SHOULD be smoke free on formal nights (again, it may change....) otherwise, it is pretty smokey. The Promenade is usually not smokey at all during the day...again, depending on what's happening, later in the evening, smoke may waft out from within the bars, and it will rise up from the casino, but if you're moving along it should be OK. The theatre and most places where there are shows (such as Studio B) will be smoke free.... I don't like smoke at all and i have asthma and I am able to find areas that are not too bad.....again, you have different and understandable concerns..I am just trying to reassure you that the whole ship shouldn't be a cloud of smoke. You'll be able to see what bars are smoking/smoke free in your cruise compass... hth
Gonzo70 Posted September 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2012 My time dining applies to the main dining room. Surprisingly RCI still permits smoking in quite a few indoor smoking venues, and the smoke tends to spill into nearby non-smoking venues (and sometimes is vented to non-smoking venues). Fortunately your cruise is a year-and-a-half out, so by then I would be shocked if RCI has not made some significant further restrictions in their outdated smoking policy. You may want to take a look at sister line, Celebrity. They have completely banned smoking in all indoor venues (even the casino), do not permit smoking on balconies, and only have about four outdoor smoking areas. needabreakcanada Posted September 19, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted September 19, 2012 That helps - yes thank you. We just had our first cruise with carnival on freedom and now I feel better prepared and which questions to ask. I would imagine each cruise brings up new questions/situations - but I will try and enlighten myself to the best of my ability. Don't want to look like a total newbie for the second time:D

Rare NorbertsNiece Posted September 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2012 I asked this question on the main AoS question thread but received no response. Hope you won't object if I put this here..... Regarding the 'Seven of Hearts'. On the website it says : Sit outside, take in the ocean view and enjoy a light meal or simply a snack, in one of our most popular venues, where fun is offered up along with good food. I must have missed this last time I was on her.... anyone pass on their experience of this please?
