Saving in food costs on port days

What an odd post. Why would you encourage someone to break the law, to take the chance on incurring fines, to possibly introduce an agricultural pest, and to cause themselves embarrassment when there are perfectly good, inexpensive, legal alternatives to those who need to take food ashore? I just don't get it.

I would much rather take the "moral high ground" and obey the laws of the host country than to take the moral low ground as you are advising. I guess some people are quite comfortable with being on the low end of the moral scale.

We know that many people, at the breakfast buffet, make a cheese & meat sandwich on a hard roll, wrap it in a napkin & take off the ship with them. I am not saying you should / or that we have, do / done this, just stating a fact & let the reader take what they want from it. You would be surprised how much of this actually happens.

 

They are missing one of our favorite things about visiting other countries, and that is checking out the local specialities.

Wow - nothing to do with "moral high-ground" has to do with LAWS of the host country and not risking causing massive deconstruction to the host country's agriculture if you introduce a foreign pest. What you just advised the OP to do could cause them to be detained in some countries, levied a large fine (in some countries the fines for this are in the neighborhood of $10,000) as well as potentially devastate a country's agriculture.

 

Pretty sad that someone would make recommendations such as yours. :mad:

 

We know someone who got stopped in Chile and spent 3 hours in a Police station when they got caught with an Apple. The police officer escorted them to an ATM so they could get money to pay the fine.

Yes indeed, on a recent Greek Isles cruise I could not believe how affordable our daily lunches were in the small streetside cafes. Fresh, delicious and typically around $7 each, including a beer!
