Ponta Delgada, (Azores) Portugal

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are taking a TransAtlantic Cruise in April of 13. Our first stop will be Azores, Portugal. We are looking for opinions on things to do there. If it's best to take and Excursion from the ship, or go out on our own. It will be our 1st time there. :o

DH and I did a ship's excursion which was very nice. Our friends just got a taxi on the pier and had about the same tour as us for less money. A few more spots too.

It is one of the prettiest island I have ever been on. I would go back in a heartbeat. Nice people too.

We had a great time in Ponta Delgada on our TA this past Spring! The island is beautiful!

10 members of our roll call booked a quad bike tour with ANC Motorent. Most of us had little to no skills on the quads, and Andre and his team were VERY PATIENT with us as we learned to operate them. We had a very wide variety of participants.

We then had a blast touring the lakes. We were able to get down the trails right to the shoreline, which is probably unique to Andre's tour.

We did book ahead, but their kiosk is right at the top of the ramp from the dock. I know they also rent motorcycles, but that would have been more challenging than I was up for.

We also had a great time in Ponta Delgada on our TA cruise this past April. You can easily DIY; it is only a 10 minutes walk to the town center. There is a nice market right across from the port that you can stock up on snacks, drinks... We also took a tourist tram ride (45-minutes around town). Here are some links that I used for my planning.

I Live in Ponta Delgada and I'm also a traveler. Usually in Cruises.

In Ponta Delgada it is only a 10 minutes safe walk to the town center. Is a nice and beautiful walk.

It's not the best idea to take a Excursion from the ship, it's so much expensive and you will loose everything. A Taxi or a local guide Tour it's better option, resuming, it's better go out on our own.

If someone decides for a Taxi or a local guide, you just need to negotiate a price before you goo.

Nice People living here, no crime, or problems, visitors are respected and allways welcome.

It's easy find people speaking english here.
