Rare deladane Posted September 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2012 Has anyone done Stand Up Paddle boarding in St. Kitts? Any recommendations on a good and inexpensive instructor/tour? This will be my only repeat island on my upcoming cruise, so I'm looking to do something a little different from the island tour I took last time. Thanks! ibcnusoon Posted September 30, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2012 I was just researching tours when I saw this company that offers a paddle boarding tour: http://www.kantours.com/index.php/tours/stkitts-tours St. Kitts Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) A short drive through the Frigate Bay Resort area leads to the South-East Peninsula Highway. Capture the awe-inspiring views as you leisurely meander across the Mountain Range, closely flanked by the energetic Atlantic Ocean on the north and the tranquil Caribbean Sea on the South. Riders will be provided with state of the art streamlined life jackets and leashes so they can have peace of mind knowing they have the best in safety options. Once everyone feels comfortable the adventure begins! Your tour guide will guide you along the rugged and unspoiled coastline passing secluded coves, cliffs and caves ending at Bird Rock Beach Cove. On your tour you may get to see stingrays, sea turtles, tropical fish, mountain goats and a variety of birds. Come and enjoy an original St Kitts experience. Get up, stand up...for your right to SUP! gxchan Posted September 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2012 @ibcnusoon - Today I was also looking at the paddle board excursion on St. Kitts through RCCL but am not sure if their offering is the same as the one you listed. In any case, I appreciate the info and am going to book it! Thanks! Ginnie
Rare deladane Posted September 30, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted September 30, 2012 Do you know the cost of that excursion? I saw that when I was googling for ideas, but they don't list a price! Also, do you know if that excursion starts at the cruise terminal? Or would we have to pay extra money for a taxi to get to the start point? St. Kitts Stand UP Paddle Board listed on RCCl - as KTA1 is priced at USD 79 for adult and child. Tour duration - 3 hours. The excursion starts at the cruise terminal. This is a new excursion and currently only RCCL is offering it. White House Bay is a secluded stone beach over the peninsula and has really good snorkelling. Rare deladane Posted September 30, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted September 30, 2012 I am taking a Carnival cruise, so I was actually referring to the Kantours pricing and transportation :) Thanks though! Does anyone know more info about Kantours or any other private vendor?
ibcnusoon Posted October 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) I did find more information about the company, but no mention of paddle boarding. This excursion must be new for them. If anyone finds out the price and details, please let me know. We are taking a morning tour of the island and I think this paddle boarding excursion would be wonderful in the afternoon, as opposed to be being dropped off at a beach: http://www.definitivecaribbean.com/getting-to-the-caribbean/st-kitts/local-organisers/kantours-vacation-tour-consultants They also have a twitter page: https://twitter.com/KantoursDMC and a facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/StKittsSup Edited October 1, 2012 by ibcnusoon
ibcnusoon Posted October 1, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2012 I found a tour on St. Kitts for paddleboarding: http://lizpereirastourstore.shutterfly.com/availabletours Looks like you can find them all day at Shipwreck Beach Bar on South Friars Beach, no need to book a tour if you can get dropped off there. We are touring in the morning with Thenford Gray and will be dropped off at a beach in the afternoon. I'll ask him to drop us off here and we can do the paddle boarding on our own for an hour or so, or you can book a private tour: You'll need to scroll almost all the way down on the landing page and you'll see it: Stand Up Paddle Boards A short drive from Port Zante and Frigate Bay leads you to beautiful South Friars Beach. South Friars has the most tranquil waters that allows for the most inexperienced persons to get the hang of standing up on their own personal standup paddle board. Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is a sport that everyone can enjoy, regardless of your age, ability or size. The perfect whole body and core workout, SUP is the most peaceful way to get out and explore the beautiful coastline of St. Kitts while you're exercising. It provides balance and coordination, strength and endurance , is stress reducing, invigorating, and invites adventure and exploration. On arrival your guide will take you through an informative orientation and history behind Paddle Boarding. Instructions are included. Once everyone feels comfortable the adventure begins! Duration: 30 minutes Maximum: 12 pax Minimum age: 8 years Maximum age: 80 years Recommended: Towels, swim wear, sun tan lotion Includes: Round trip transportation, SUP board, instructions and paddle Only $15 USD per person. We also offer escorted tours. Open every day from 8AM-4PM. Free SUP lessons included. Transfers to the beach are additional.
waterman2012 Posted October 1, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 1, 2012 We just had a great experience Standup paddle boarding In St Kitts when we got off the ship. We had found an outfitter call Honu and Pelikana WWW.SUPstkitts.com on the internet right before we travelled. We had been to St kitts before and had tried the SUP's at south friars. I think it was at a place called shipwrecks? It was nice and all but your kinda stuck there the baords were not good at all, and as a person who SUP's I wanted to explore. Well we contacted Honu and Pelikana and they set up a custom tour of the caribbean coast for us. It was the highlight of our trip! It was perfect thing to do when getting off the boat. We saw all sorts of turtles and sting rays. The boards where all new NSP brand boards, not what Im used to riding but really stable and they track ( turned ) really well. It was more expesnive then just going out for an hour but it was cheaper than most cruise lines. We paid 65US a person and some of the cruise ships Ive been on charge 80-90US, and this was by far the best one Ive been on. Ive recommended this tour to another couple that went right after us and I got the same exact response " highlight of our trip". Hope that helps

Did you have to arrange your own transportation to the beach or did they pick you up at the port? We have not tried SUP yet and this looks like a great way to experience it. waterman2012 Posted October 23, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2012 They arranged a taxi/bus for us. It picked us up at the port and delivered us to whitehouse bay. It was a pretty short ride. When we were done we had lunch and just relaxed on the beach. They had a taxi come pick us up then we just hung out in port for a little before we got back on the ship. We are going back to St Kitts again to stay at the Marriot. We loved the island and want to see more of it. Cant wait to paddleboard again, Im hooked

Hope that helps Hi, I think we are going to do this one on our upcoming trip. We are looking at the 3 hour tour they have on their website. Is this the one you signed up for? How did you reserve your board and time? I also want to clarify, that when you were done with your paddleboards, you were able to hang out on the beach for a while? Did you snorkel as well? Did they provide a secure place for your belongings? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for your help.
waterman2012 Posted November 9, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 9, 2012 We had some time after the tour to hang out on the beach, we had maybe about 2-3 hours before we had to back at the ship. We didnt really have much with us so we really didnt have to secure anything. They had snorkeling equipment rental at the beach so we snorkeled out on the reef for awhile which was pretty good. The guides just stayed with us and told us a little bit about the beach we were on. We were really happy with the guides, they were really friendly and knew what they there doing

When they arranged the taxi/bus from/to the ship was it included in the price of the tour or did you pay for it separately? If separately, what was the cost? GreytRacer Posted June 23, 2015 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) Wish I had something to report. :/ We were booked, deposit paid, took the cab to the beach, walked down the beach searching for them.... And nothing. Our Guide never showed up. The Manager of the Jamrock Beach Bar, where we were supposed to meet him, said he had been there and left. He called him, but after waiting 20 minutes and he still hadn't shown up we had him call back and just cancel. I sent an email to Nick the owner, who apologized and refunded our deposit. He said the Guide claimed he waited an hour and we never showed. Our ship didn't get in until noon, so maybe he showed up early, not paying any attention to the time the ship arrived. I was was glad we got the apology and the refund and Jamrock had great food and drinks to drown our sorrows. But, we were 4 very disappointed non-SUP-ers. :( Edited June 23, 2015 by GreytRacer
