Pride of America debarkation excursion questions

We are sailing on the POA from October 20 to 27. We are taking the Explore Oahu's Famous North Shore excursion from the ship on the last day.

Has anyone taken this excursion, and can you tell me (1) how the luggage is handled from the ship to the excursion bus and then to the airport, and (2) how and when are we met by the excursion guide?

We have taken excursions on the last day of cruises before, but different cruise lines and different ports-of-call handle these excursions differently.

I'll post this on the Norwegian Cruise Line board also.

I appreciate any information anyone can provide.

I don't have experience with the POA but I can tell you what we did for our NCL Gem cruise that just ended in New York 5 days ago. We planned a tour of NYC and then a drop off at the airport.

The last night of the cruise we were given specially colored luggage tags indicating that we were on a post-cruise tour. Bags (except for carry-on) were placed outside our cabin to be picked up by the steward. We were given a time and location aboard ship to meet prior to disembarking. The tour met as a group and we were walked off the ship as a group. We stopped at the pier to pick up our luggage and then were taken to the waiting tour bus.

After the tour, we were taken to the airport and given our luggage so we could check in. I suspect your experience will be similar.

Have a great time on your cruise. You will be well taken care of!

NCL has an "Easy Fly Program" and if your flight meets the requirement and is on a participating airline, for an additional fee of $19.95 per person on top of applicable checked luggage fees, subject to acceptance - you will get your boarding passes issued and luggage taken the night before debarkation on the POA, and be taken to HNL airprot for transfer to your flight to the final U.S. destination.

Participating airlines include UA, AA, DL and JetBlue - you need to check directly with NCL and they will have most updated info onboard during your sailing.

Otherwise, if you signed up for a post-cruise NCL sponsored tours, your luggage will be taken & stored on the tour bus - usually, that is - and at the end of the tour, be driven to the airport along with the luggage. Have you checked your online booking details for any related info?

We took that tour on our trip last month. Luggage is stored on the bus and at the end of the tour they drop you off at the airport with your luggage.

You meet for the tour in the theater and they walk you down to the luggage pickup area and then to the bus. Pretty easy and straightforward.

What did you think of this tour? Would you recommend it to others?

Mahalo.

Just got off the phone with a Norwegian rep. Here are your options:

1- Fly Easy program in Hawaii is 24.95 per guest, (2 bags per person) - must sign up for this by the 5th day of your cruise at the guest relations desk. (it is 19.95 on the mainland)

2- Secured storage at the Pier $5 per bag, must be picked up by 6 PM. - just take your baggage to the secured location when you disembark.

3- Aloha Bus & Tour - secures your baggage at the Pier, must be picked up by 6PM and it seems you have to make your own way to the airport. $35 per adult, $19 for children.

The agent did not mention any of the other tours (such as North Shore excursion, etc.)

Have to admit, this has been one of the more stressful aspects of the trip. Our flight leave at 7:30 PM. We would just go to the airport, rent a car but we are 4 adults with baggage. We would have to rent a car with enough storage for 4 bags plus carry-ons. We have read so much about car break-ins, we don't feel safe doing that. We have been trying to get a day rate for Hilton Hawaiian Village (our pre-cruise destination), but so far they are booked solid with a convention.

We have an 8:30 pm flight and are taking the NCL Circle Island tour on the last day. The tour is 8 hours long and includes lunch. They will take care of our luggage on the bus and drop us at the airport around 6pm. Seemed like a good option for us.

The NCL POA North Shore tour is 5 hours. It starts around 9am, you swipe your ship card one last time as you leave the ship, then you claim your luggage at the disembarkation terminal (separated by a color-tag that you will receive in your room the second to last day). Ths bus and tour operator (also the driver), are right outside the terminal building, you hand him your ticket (that you will receive in your cabin during the cruise). He loads your luggage under the bus.

The tour goes to Byodo Temple, MacNut farm, you'll see Chinaman's hat island, shrimp farms, the Koolau Mountain range. Next you arrive at the north shore to see the surfing beaches (high waves in winter, more calm other times of year): Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay. Then travel through pineapple and sugarcane country, then to airport around 2-3pm.

Every year we do the Grand Circle tour but it takes 8 hours, from 9am to arriving at airport around 5-6pm.

Either tour is a great way to relax and see Oahu before leaving, plus you get a ride to the airport with your luggage.
