I would appreciate a self service laundry on board Celebrity ships. I would only use it if either of us had an accident, I'm sure we've all experienced food spillages.

Other lines offer machines and although I've seen some people doing their weekly wash I certainly prefer to spend my vacation away from the chores.

Your point is well taken. But I am a feisty old broad who finds pointing out foolishness a enjoyable pastime. So, I come on these boards, find those postings that border on pointlessness, and jump right in. Keeps my mind younger and more mentally fit than my 80+ years should have it be.

You can continue to "tilt at windmills" (google it if you don't know what this means) if you like, and I will continue to enjoy commenting on the fruitlessness of such frivolous endeavors.

I would think a better use for your time would be to contribute towards attainable goals instead lobbying for improbable changes. But, that is clearly your decision to make.

If you regard giving customer feedback as "foolishness" then you may have to redirect the dunce cap. Customer feedback is one of the most important tools used by a company in their marketing strategy.

If everyone had your attitude (ie that there is no room for change and that things should stay the way they are because that's just how it's always been done), then you probably would not even have the option of cruising on modern day cruise ships. Or, for that matter of, using anything but your own hands to wash your laundry

Providing customer feedback directly to the cruise line is one thing. A never ending barrage of complaining, whining and griping on a public forum is quite another thing.

If everybody had my attitude they would be providing constructive suggestions to the people who run the cruise line instead of complaining on public forums where the only benefit gained is the hope of finding other like minded people to share your complaints with. The phrase "misery loves company" comes to mind.

I find it ridiculous that some of you actually believe an incessant number of posts on a public forum criticizing the cruise line for not having something that you want (and that the majority of people do not care about) will result in the changes you insist upon.

Don't sit at your computer complaining to anonymous readers who can't do anything about it! Instead, pick up your phone and contact the cruise line with your request. Write a letter asking them to include the changes you desire. Do something constructive, for crying out loud! Be smart with your time and effort. Be proactive, not reactive. Be a leader, not a follower. Be a motivator, not a complainer.

And then maybe, just maybe, you will effect the change you want.

That's what people with my attitude would do.

But what do I know - my late husband and I built up a very successful company that we sold at a nice sum in order to retire quite comfortably so that we could afford to cruise as many times as we have together, so I must not have a clue on how to affect change.

We proactive poster have proven that self service laundries are wanted on Celebrity cruises (read the Poll). Celebrity read the Cruise Critic Forum, they even post on it. I am sure people who want the self service laundry facility and who cruise with Celebrity after reading this Poll, will Lobby by filling in feedback cards on their next cruise.

You are wrong when you say there are a number of incessant posters criticising Celebrity, we are simply putting forward a suggestion, it will be up to them to make changes if they so wish. The more people who voice their opinions, the more likely Celebrity are to listen and make changes.

You are living in the dark ages! Do you honestly think that a company as big as Celebrity takes absolutely no note of forums such as Cruise Critic?

Phoning a company to provide feedback may work with your local Hair Salon/corner cafe/carpet cleaning service but big companies in the modern era use modern technology to get feedback. Even the comment cards that you fill in at the end of cruise will be "fed" into a computer.

I'm sure you did great with your business. But times have now changed.

Please also note that this is not "criticizing" or "complaining". It was one of the questions asked by a CC member and put to Mr Bayley. He responded by saying it was not part of their current plans but that they would monitor feedback in the future. The poll is there to give him that feedback.

Please don't go on to the Q and A Board with Mr Bayley - if you regard this as "criticizing" or "complaining", that Board will set your blood pressure sky high.

Have you not heard of the "squeaky wheel" and the power of numbers? The more we ask for it, the more they will pay attention! We need to let them know that we do have choices of cruise lines and maybe they will realise that this is actually a marketing tool! Customer satisfaction should be King!!!!

Anyone who believes a poll worded in the "Have you quit betting your wife yet?" format has any value is smoking some realy good stuff.

No laundry facilities is Celebrity's way and always has been and I am sure they are not going to make the large investment required to retrofit ships nor take the resulting loss of revenue based on some half a$$ non scientific, non representative poll. I know Celebrity management is smarter than that.

I wouldn't mind if Celebrity had self serve laundry. Especially for longer itineraries or if you're staying a few days pre/post cruise. We could pack less, do a load mid way through the cruise. I wouldn't base my cruise on it though.

Sorry, Aussie Claire, but because of the way it was worded, this poll will tell you absolutely nothing of value in terms of percentages for and against the proposition of including laundries on Celebrity ships.

Like many others, I do not want a laundry on board for several reasons, but I am certainly not going to select that final poll option as it does not reflect in any way what I think on the subject. There is, in fact, no reasonable response for me to choose on that poll.

So while I oppose the existence of onboard laundries on Celebrity, you will not see my response reflected in the poll.

I understand that the OP worded the poll as s/he did to "lighten up" the subject, but because of the wording, absolutely no conclusions can be drawn.

I voted for the riot, even though I really wouldn't. I just couldn't help myself, since the poll creator was obviously very biased. My true answer is that I feel just slightly stronger against it than "don't care," because I simply wouldn't be interested in using it, and if there was one, I would have to slightly inconvenience myself to check deck plans and make sure I didn't choose a cabin too close to it in case of noise issues and just the general unpleasantness of being around people doing laundry, something I would rather forget all about while on vacation. :)

Many vacation dollars could be saved by vacationing here instead of on a Celebrity cruise!

That long row of washers brings back memories - and not good ones. I now avoid public laundromats like the plague. They remind me of my poorer days when I couldn't afford my own house and had to go to the neighborhood laundromat, a place where I usually had put up with the inevitable low class types who often frequent such places. Never again!

I also agree that the poll was so badly biased in one direction that it amazes me that anyone with common sense would even consider it a representation of people's opinions. It was a poll that only rabid laundry room fanatics would blindly insist was meaningful. It is laughable that they point to this flawed poll to support their cause.

I always wonder why some people care about certain things that they have no interest in. Why would anyone RIOT because Celebrity decided to install self-serve laundries. It just seem so ridiculous.

I know the cruise lines (except for Disney) need a casino to make a better profit. I don't believe in a game of chance so couldn't care less if a casino is on board or not. While I am on board it has no effect on my enjoyment.

I don't lay out in the HOT sun baking like cookie dough so I don't care that other people do.

Several premium lines have self serve laundry and it has no effect on the PREMIUM ambiance. So how could it have a bad effect on MAINSTREAM Celebrity?

If a certain percentage of passengers want to do their own laundry, good for them but why do the others really care?

.......miffed in cowtown

Sorry you feel that way, maybe you would like to start another Poll.

e.g. Are you in favour of a self service laundry.

  • Yes
  • No.

That would take up probably 2 inside cabins per floor

That would a lot of loss money, do not think that will happen

I am sure one inside cabin would be sufficient, place the dryers above the washing machines or include the dryer as part of the washing machine, the other two walls can be used for the ironing boards and tables to fold clothing, if needed.

Some higher end more expensive cruise lines ( Regent ) don't think that it's below their brand to have a small self service laundry room on each floor.

When you are on a 14 day tropical humid cruise , you go through a lot more clothes than other types of cruises.

That being said, give me a sink, woolite and a balcony and I have self service laundry on any ship!
