mwoody1967 Posted October 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Any trustworthy locations in Cozumel to get Cuban cigars?
PeterPan Posted October 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2012 La casa del habana, near the ferry terminal. Do a search for "cigar dude" in the Cozumel forum here at CC. He has all the information there. Don't expect good pricing though, as Mexico taxes the import cigars at a pretty high rate. Expect somewhere close to $20.00 a stick for Partagas Serie D #
QuickGold Posted October 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Take a cab ride into the city and walk down 1 or 2 blocks from the main street. There's plenty of vendors there and their prices ought to be competitive.
time4u2go Posted October 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Be aware that it's illegal to bring Cuban cigars into the U. S. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/clearing/restricted/cuban_cigars.xml

Palmetto Pilot Posted October 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Another note: There are MANY fake Cuban cigars sold in Mexico....... way, way, way too many. I'd be extremely hesitant buying a Cuban in Mexico.
Cruising started Posted October 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Most "Cuban" cigars are fake. And most couldnt tell the difference anyway. I prefer Domincan wraps so for the price and the expectation of getting a fake anyway, I just go with previous experience.

I am in full agreement that there are more fakes than authentic Cuban cigars in MX but I would trust that particular outlet. My favorites are the Montecristo #2's. Usually pick them up in SXM for around $18 / ea.
mwoody1967 Posted October 15, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted October 15, 2012 Don24, yes you are right, one of our stops (the 2nd one) is in Falmouth. So you say there is a legit shop inside the "walled gates" to get Cubans there? Thank you for the info.
Big_G Posted October 15, 2012 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2012 Don24, yes you are right, one of our stops (the 2nd one) is in Falmouth. So you say there is a legit shop inside the "walled gates" to get Cubans there? Thank you for the info. There is a brand new store at the pier in Falmouth. The one in Cozumel is located at Benito Juárez & Rafael E. Melgar. You have to turn onto Benito Juárez and it should be on your left, second floor. Do not buy Cubans from anyone else. If you're not paying $20 a stick, you're probably getting ripped off. Too many frauds. Trust no one else.

mwoody1967 Posted October 16, 2012 Author #15 Share Posted October 16, 2012 Don, or anyone, do you know the name of the la casa de habano cigar shop in Falmouth inside the gated walls, to get the cuban cigars? Thanks
PeterPan Posted October 17, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 17, 2012 I suspect it is called "La Casa Del Habano". It was opened by Vinar Limited.
ltcal94 Posted November 3, 2012 #17 Share Posted November 3, 2012 IMHO there is only one legitimate place to acquire real Habonos and that is at the La Casa del Habanos in downtown Cozumel . Do a search for LCDH Cozumel and you can find their contact information. In addition, you can look up the Habanos website and search for the distributor for MX and specifically for authorized dealers in Quintana Roo. A lot of places have signs that would make you believe that they sell real cigars, but they do not. One thing I always look for is to see if they are selling Cohiba Piramide cigars. Cohiba did not make non-limited edition piramide cigars until this year and these cigars have a unique band with special holograms. The point is that at the end of the day if you want to get some legitimate Habanos you will need to educate yourself and there is a "cubancigarwebsite" that is loaded with information. Safe Harbor Statement :D Keep in mind that it is just not illegal to import Habanos to the US, the mere purchase of Habonos cigars is against US law . US citizens are not allowed to purchase anything that has an origin in Cuba. Take a cab ride into the city and walk down 1 or 2 blocks from the main street. There's plenty of vendors there and their prices ought to be competitive. If your going to coz maybe ypur going to falmouth.
