Casino?

I know this may seem very petty, but in order to get my husband to try river cruising I'm going to have to dangle a carrot out there. As he is not a reader, he'll need something to occupy his time at night....so, I'm wondering if there are any river cruises that have casinos? I'm not even sure if they are allowed to have casinos due to the distance to land but just wondering.

I don't believe there are any casinos on board any river boats. The population on a boat is very limited and might not be conducive to having a casino.

Germany, Austria and France ( and I suppose other countries as well) do have a number of casinos although I've never been to any. Google each country for Casinos and you will see a list of cities that have them. Maybe you can intice him with going to one of those. I believe they may be more formal than the typical Las Vegas casino but then again I've never been to a European Casino. It would be fun and maybe next trip we'll look into it. I remember we almost stopped into one in Amsterdam but time didn't permit.

As far as not being a reader he doesn't have to be. You can find all sorts of off ship explorations if time permits.

My husband is literally in the same boat as yours. We are going on a riverboat next summer and he is busy googling which towns and cities along the way have casinos. He always liked ocean cruising because of the casinos on board. Unfortunately, there aren't any casinos on any of the river cruiselines we were considering.

Thanks for the input, all. The issue isn't what to do to fill our days...we're fine with that. It's what to do to fill his nights (hence the comment about reading). I use my time to journal, catch a show, etc. He uses his time, generally, to play penny slots. So this is the conundrum for me - trying to find something that will appeal to both of us.

I'm sure you wont find any river cruises in Europe with casinos, with less than 200 passengers they wouldnt be able to sustain them, but we did see them in some towns on the rivers. In Vienna we went to the historic giant Ferris wheel which is in Prater Amusement park, thrre were many casinos in there, didnt go into any, but the 100+ year old wheel was definitely worth a look, we went on it at night and was just lovely :-)

Well, I gave him all the suggestions you all so thoughtfully provided and he ke-boshed them:(...looks like I will have to wait a few more years to address the river cruise idea again (or I could go with my mother :)). Thanks anyway!

Actually, a river cruise is our trip of choice when traveling with my mother, who is 82. Easier on me and on her and we both get what we enjoy. She can relax in the afternoons and I can stay out in port until ready to get back on the boat.
