Excursions in Italy

We are cruising to Italy and would like some input about excursions - any suggestions? Thought about the 9 hour Cinque Terre tour - did anyone enjoy doing this? We are considering doing Florence on our own and would like to take a train or a taxi from the ship into Florence - is there any availability and would you recommend doing this. We have been to Italy a few times so we don't want to repeat any locations. Croatia is new for us we plan on doing Dubrovnik on own own - good idea? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

People do take the train to Florence to tour on their own. There is prob info on this board on the train schedules.

Dubrovnik can be done on your own, cruises generally run shuttle buses into the old town walled city. Cabs are also available
