cruisecritiquer Posted October 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2012 We are taking the Thanksgiving cruise. I've been on quite a few cruises but I'm realizing...it's never been during football season. Please tell me there are ample places for my DH to watch his football games during our Thanksgiving cruise and on Sundays. Does anyone know if every game is available like the Sunday Ticket. If not I fear there may be a DH overboard. ;)
KansasCityGuys Posted October 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2012 On Thanksgiving your husband should be able to watch all of the NFL games since there is only 1 game in each time slot. That is also assuming that there are no problems with the satellite. As for Sunday, NCL will pre select a NFL game in each time slot to show. It is a crap shoot on which game they will show. rvsullivan Posted October 21, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2012 No Sunday Ticket for sure. The cruise line will pick a game at a time to watch, whether it is one he cares for or not is hard to tell. Our last couple of cruises, whichever game they pick will be the only one on at a given time, you won't be able to shop around the ship for a better game. twinlges Posted October 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Are you saying that when we leave out of NY on the 11th of Nov I may not get to see the Giants play at 1 o'clock?
puddles99 Posted October 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2012 As I understand it, if there is a request, they try to accommodate in one or more of the bars. I would also venture to guess that on sailings from NYC, they would likely default to playing the Giants or Jets games unless otherwise requested. Enjoy your adventure! Hopes4 Posted October 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Are you saying that when we leave out of NY on the 11th of Nov I may not get to see the Giants play at 1 o'clock? When I sailed last year I got to watch the Jets and Giants games. I watched in a small bar, but they also had the game on the big screen in the atrium. twinlges Posted October 22, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Ahhh, now you can hear me relax again! :) I am a football junkie and I love all the games, but...don't mess with my Giants game! LOL! Yes, there was panic there!! Katie

I wouldn't be TOTALLY relieved. It's no guarantee that they'll show that game

It might depend on whether Cincinatti (the team you're playing that day) can win a few games and make the matchup more intriguing. Although, looking at the early slate that day, there's a whole lot of not-very-interesting matchups. NYGirl1002 Posted October 22, 2012 #13 Share Posted October 22, 2012 You would think they'd play the game of the home team of the port that they are leaving. It's all common sense. I'm on that same cruise Twinlges.
MiamiSpartan Posted October 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 22, 2012 They had the main games on yesterday on the Sky....We sailed the Epic during the NFL playoffs a couple of years back, and it was a blast! Everyone came decked out in team jerseys, and they showed the games on the big screens in the lobby and off the back of the ship...
Partyatsea Posted October 22, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I wouldn't be TOTALLY relieved. It's no guarantee that they'll show that game We have sailed out of Miami and got the Giants game and out of NY and not gotten the Jet game. In our experience they do tho have at least one game in every time slot.
blindrid Posted October 22, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Anyone know if they have the Thursday Night NFL network games? Don't hold your breath on that one. You can thank the minds of the NFL for coming up with their network :(:(. Keep in mind that the cruise lines' TV viewing is pretty limited. patricel Posted October 22, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I was on the Pearl recently and when someone asked for a different game to be put on, he was told "we only get one channel" so it couldn't be changed.
Guindalf Posted October 22, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Last year on the Sun (Halloween), they posted which games would be shown in the Sports Bar. Can't remember what the early game was, but the later game was the Pats vs. the Steelers (don't worry, my Steelers won!! ;) ). Don't know if we just got lucky or not, but there was a ton of Steelers fans in the bar with us! Oh, and one unhappy Pats fan. :) I think it was shown on ESPN Europe or something like that. Lou33 Posted October 22, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 22, 2012 The cruiseships have limited bandwidth and limited channel choices. If you think about it, that DirecTV dish antenna that we have on our roofs wouldn't work very well on a ship that is constantly moving.
cruisecritiquer Posted October 22, 2012 Author #20 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I wasn't literally asking if they have direct tv. I was asking if they televise all the games (some how some way). I can't even get a signal if it gets too cloudy so I didn't expect them to really carry the Sunday Ticket. :p
twinlges Posted October 23, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 23, 2012 Ok, what about this, I'm in a Haven Suite, and the concierge said she'd do whatever she could to make my cruise fantastic, please request whatever I want--should I request this??? Lighten up! I'm kidding!! (sort of...do you think it would help?) Katie

Ladytee47 Posted October 26, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 26, 2012 I will be on the Epic on Dec. 23 so I know I want to see my Cowboys play!!:) Also my DH is a Steelers Fan and I know he wants to see his game! Don Haynes Posted October 27, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 27, 2012 Ahhh, now you can hear me relax again! :) I am a football junkie and I love all the games, but...don't mess with my Giants game! LOL! Yes, there was panic there!! Katie If you are sailing out of New York you are probably safe. But if you were sailing out of any other city, you won't be safe. The New York teams may be a default with ships sailing out of New York, but don't expect they will be safe sailing out of Miami or Tampa or New Orleans. Me, I would rather spend some time in the casino, or on in the pool. My world isn't going to end because of no football. I don't take cruises to watch sports on television. If I do happen to be watching television on a cruise, its late at night just before retiring to sleep.
LifeNJ Posted October 27, 2012 #25 Share Posted October 27, 2012 I was on the Star in Sept. and they had a football party in the lobby, it was the first game for the Giants. It was also on the TVs. It was great, they brought in the snacks and of course the waiters were there taking drink orders.
