Hi, Hammy...... Nice to see you posting.

Does HAL own their ships or are they leased from Carnival Corp?

They are owned by HAL Antillen N.V. of the Netherland Antilles who bare boat charters them to Holland America Line N.V. of the Netherlands.

The operating company is Holland America Line Inc. of Seattle, USA

Just like hotels such as Hyatt and Hilton cruise ships are not owned by companies such as Holland America or even Carnival just operated or managed.

I think there are some Hyatt franchises but was sure many Hyatt hotels were owned and operated by Hyatt. No?

Also.......

Thanks for the responses as to ownership of HAL ships.

And..........to muddy the waters some more, since OCT 2010, the Netherlands Antilles are no more!;)

Aruba has been a separate country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands for 26 yrs;

Curacao and Sint Maarten are now constituent countries within the Kingdom

Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius are now special municipalities within the Kingdom

Even though they are officially no more I think a lot of people still refer to them as the Antilles, even Aruba which as you mentioned has been seperate for many years. :rolleyes:

As a correction they are owned by HAL Antillen NV of Willemstad, Curacao.
