Rare cruisestitch Posted November 5, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2012 There are two products going by the name Smirnoff Ice, one is a malt beverage and the other is a vodka based product. The malt beverage is sold in the US, the vodka based beverage is sold in Canada and elsewhere. Which one are you asking about?

Martinis which are only available on premium package for example. You can get Martinis with the classic package. My parents did, as they were smaller than the ones on the premium package, but were covered under the classic! They had chocolate ones every :)night...! Rare cruisestitch Posted November 5, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2012 From Wikipedia: "There are two different products by the name of Smirnoff Ice. One, sold in France and the United States, is a citrus-flavored malt beverage (5.0% ABV) with variants in "Original," and "Triple Black." The other, sold in Europe (excluding France), Latin America, Australia and Canada, is a premixed vodka drink. It also has variants in "Original" and "Black Ice" (or in some markets, "Triple Black" or "Double Black"), ranging from 4.5% in the UK, to 7% ABV in different markets. The Smirnoff Ice marketed in the USA does not actually contain vodka according to the official Smirnoff website.[8] It is more similar to beer than to vodka, primarily because it is brewed. However outside of the USA and countries who receive US manufactured vodka it does contain Smirnoff Vodka No. 21. Smirnoff Ice Twisted was a spin-off of the American Smirnoff Ice that featured flavors such as Mandarin Orange and Green Apple. The confusion in branding between Smirnoff Twist Vodka and Smirnoff Twisted Malt Beverage resulted in the decision to drop the "Twisted" from the flavored line of Smirnoff Ice. Current Smirnoff Ice flavors include Watermelon, Wild Grape, Passionfruit, Mango, Triple Black, Pomegranate Fusion, Arctic Berry (Blueberry), Green Apple Bite, Strawberry Acai, Pineapple and Raspberry Burst. It is sold in 22 oz. [650 ml] bottles and six-packs of 12 oz. [355 ml] bottles." I can't imagine ever putting the malt beverage in a martini. Tell me it isn't so! WhitsEnd Posted November 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 8, 2012 I am a first timer and trying to understand what drink package we should buy, or if we even need one. What beverages are offered without a package? Which package do you prefer? Thank you!
Rare cruisestitch Posted November 8, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Included beverages: coffee, tea, hot chocolate (mix), milk, skim milk, various juice drinks, fruit punch, iced tea, lemonade. There are dozens of threads about the packages. Suggest you do a search of this board and spend some time browsing through them. Some like them, some feel that they aren't worth the money. YMMV. kitkat9438 Posted November 8, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2012 I am a first timer and trying to understand what drink package we should buy, or if we even need one. What beverages are offered without a package? Which package do you prefer? Thank you! Welcome first timer. You don't have to buy a package, you can purchase as you go if you prefer. There are free options as cruisestitch mentions above. Here's a link to a thread with the options. The packages go on sale at 10% off on 11/12. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=32406318 We always get the premium package. If you look at one of the price lists and figure up what you might buy during the day, it adds up. Keep in mind that these packages include so much more than alcohol, such as bottled water, soda, fresh squeezed juices, energy drinks, specialty coffee such as cappacino, espresso, etc. The classic is limited and covers drinks up to $8 and the premium covers anything up to $12. We like the convenience of paying for the package ahead of time, no signing of receipts, etc. It makes the cruise more all inclusive. Enjoy your cruise. travlinman7 Posted November 12, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2012 Is there now a charge for coffee or tea? Last year on our Alaska cruise, both were available all day along with tapwater..Juices were available with breakfast and punch with lunch. This was in the buffet area as I recall. Coffee, tea and powdered hot chocolate (in Alaska) are free in the buffet area. Specialty versions of these are an up charge at Cafe Al Bacio and restaurants, but are covered by the classic non-alcoholic package or higher.
