SUPER BOWL No HOTEL

Was looking at New Orleans cruise but can't seem to find any hotel room and would be hard to fly in then rent a car to drive away from New Orleans to stay the night to turn around and drive back fighting traffic.

Hammond,LA is just to far away. Has anyone found a room close to New Orleans?

You could try homeaway dot com, we've used them a few times and it's always worked out great for us. It looks like they have a few houses left for decent prices (well, decent for super bowl weekend) if you're willing to stay 2 nights. If you're looking for just an inexpensive hotel, your probably out of luck. My friends booked a few months ago and even then had to really look for an open room.

We are cruising a week after Super bowl and rooms were hard to find then. We went online found the different hotels and called them. Cotton Exchange said they didn't have any but then the ladie found one. Beware of Hotel.com they tend to overbook and there may not be a room ,.That happened to us once.

You may also want to consider looking for a bed and breakfeast, there are some really good ones in NOLA.

Doctors have been known to check themselves into hospitals for Superbowl in New Orleans. Some locals rent out their houses and leave town.

The hotels will mostly have a minimum stay requirement and be pricy.

Priceline might be a good bet for having access to rooms the hotels don't want to advertise.

I was on a cruise from NOLA last year just after Thanksgiving. It was the weekend of the Grambling-Southern Universitys game and most hotels were booked. However, I found a nice Holiday Inn in Gretna which is just across the river from NO and only about a ten minute drive to the port.

We are booked on that cruise. All hotels in our budget in NOLA were sold out back in September. Cheapest we found back then was over $200/night. We are staying for 2 nights before so that was too much for us. We found a hotel in Baton Rouge which is not too far. Just did a quick check and saw lots still available for BR area. Days inn in Denham springs for ~$60', best western in BR for ~$90, and lots more.

Good luck!

We were on a cruise a couple of years ago that was Super Bowl weekend out of Florida (we didn't realize where the Super Bowl was when we booked). I thought we would have to spend the night in the airport (ugh). However, I kept a list of acceptable hotels; ones that had transportation to the Cruise Port and a free breakfast. We would call them periodically. A few weeks out, there were no rooms available.

Then, just a day or two before our flight from California we found a Hampton Inn with space available. (They had said No Room a few days before.)

So just keep trying. They hold hotel rooms until the last minute for Super Bowl guests; then sell them to cruisers at the end.

Thanks everyone.

You could try flying into Gulfport, MS and staying there. It's only about an hour from NOLA and it's an easy drive. Interstate 10 all the way. Plenty of casinos and other places to stay. There's also the option of flying into Jackson, MS which is 3 1/2 hours away. Another easy drive Interstate 55 to Interstate 10.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but just giving you some options:)

  • 2 weeks later...
We are flying in to Baton Rouge then renting a car for a drive to NOLA. A little bit extra work, perhaps, but we think it will be a fun drive.

Give yourself a little extra time driving I-10, one wreck over the Bonnet- Carre spillway will leave you on the bridge for awhile, watch for mass traffic exiting LaPlace, and follow

Thanks for the tips. We plan on leaving B.R. by 8 a.m. or so, and are actually returning the rental car at MSY airport (meeting the rest of our party there) and will get a Royal shuttle to the port.

Royal has told us that the latest shuttle for the port leaves the airport at 1 p.m. Hopefully leaving at 8 a.m. will give us enough time to make the airport with plenty of time to spare, even if traffic is delayed.
