Red Sea. Egypt Security

Recommended Posts

Has anybody out there been on the Red sea magic cruise when there was heightened security. If so how did it affect the itinerary.

We were there whilst there were the demonstrations going on in Tahrir Square in Cairo. There was the armed escort (convoy) of coaches which is usual for excursions from the port into Cairo and roads closed as we went past - but that, as I said before, is the norm or so I believe. It is also the case that an armed security person will travel with each group too.

However because of the demonstrations Thomson didn't offer any excursions to the Cairo Museum which is adjacent to the Square. We went to the Pyramids, Sakkara and Memphis and witnessed no problems whatsoever. In fact these sites were very quiet and made it all the better for seeing things and getting around. I think the Museum has been out-of-bounds so to speak ever since the start of the demonstrations. The Egyptian guides are so very pleased that we continue to visit their country that they made us very welcome indeed.

Perhaps if someone has been more recently they will be able to give you more information but security is fairly evident in Egypt - and has been for some time.
