CanWeGoYet? Posted November 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2012 I remember reading about an unlimited deal offered on some Carnival ships a while back. Anyone else who has sailed recently see this being offered still? Was hoping this would be rolled out fleet wide.

fergusonvt Posted November 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2012 Do both of those ships have the 2.0 upgrades? I wonder if it is only available if that has happened?
ohiogymrat Posted November 14, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 14, 2012 Do both of those ships have the 2.0 upgrades? I wonder if it is only available if that has happened? Dream does, Magic does not I would imagine the Dream class ships design has more to do with it. They have fun hub portals in various area and the ship is probably wired to handle higher wifi use. zgwortz Posted November 14, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2012 I suspect it's not the 2.0 upgrades, but the Dream class and later. In order for them to do what they've been doing almost certainly requires the ship to have more modern satellite communications, and quite possibly newer longer range ship to shore communications as well. It might also be strongly dependent on the region the ship is cruising. So if it's working on the Dream and Magic, I'm pretty sure it'll work on the Breeze as well when it gets here to the States. (Although they may or may not implement the program immediately there...) I'm less confident about other/older ships. Those ships may need significant communications infrastructure improvements before they can do it. No clue if Carnival plans to do those improvements with future 2.0 upgrades or not. CanWeGoYet? Posted November 15, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks to all for the info. Sounds like I am completely out of luck for my cruise on the Inspiration! I wish it were fleet wide, even without any sort of high speed option.
cruiserNC Posted November 15, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 15, 2012 I would hope they would have long terms plans of implementing this fleet wide or particularly the ships that have week long runs. It is 2012 and the thought of having internet access in the middle of the ocean doesn't seem that complicated. I remember my cruise in 2000 a phone call was 9.99 a minute today its 1.99. Their is a younger generation that is cruising today that can't live without being connected change of be left behind. jmo
bandodu Posted November 15, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 15, 2012 Does the 39.99 plan allow you to open google talk app in phone to make calls?
Rasvar Posted November 16, 2012 #16 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Does the 39.99 plan allow you to open google talk app in phone to make calls? Probably not. Based on the description, it is probably limited to Mail and Http and some instant message protocols. Probably would need to get the high speed one to use Google Voice. I would also check the fine print. Sometimes VoIP apps are blocked. Might be very asynchronous where you get high speed download but much slower upload. JediSkipdogg Posted November 16, 2012 #17 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Does the Internet work in the rooms or would it be limited to the common areas only? And by rooms, I mean Riviera deck rooms.

Internet on all carnival ships is bow to stern. Some spots might get a stronger signal but u can access it all over the ship.

emelvee Posted November 20, 2012 #22 Share Posted November 20, 2012 From JH's Facebook post today: "New high speed internet will arrive on Carnival Glory, Carnival Breeze next month. It will then work to othr ships as well. This is what we have already on Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic. A lot of cruisers it seems expect a bad internet service throughout the industry and we will work hard to get that impression changed. The goal is to move from the price per minute and introduce unlimited plan for a day or the whole cruise. Price right now is $100 for the week. thoughts please"

What I did was purchase one of the larger packages, because the internet manager on this ship said he would transfer any unused minutes to the next cruise (I'm on a B2B).
