sweetcurves Posted November 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2012 I'm looking at an Alaskan cruise for when I'm done school in May 2014. Any idea when those dates will be released? I thought I'd heard before that it's usually a year out.

kingoftheicedragons Posted November 30, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Alaska is beautiful. Try to plan your cruise to coincide with whale migration. There is nothing like being on deck of the ship and watching a pod of humpback whales swimming along side you. One of my favorite memories of all time, not just of cruising. Mom2JJandJ Posted November 30, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 30, 2012 When is whale migration? So....when is the whale migration? Starting late April through September. A lot of it also depends on the area. Try this: whale dash watching dash alaska dot com slash besttimetoseewhales dot php and it should give you some ideas. That's on my bucket list... hope you can get one booked!

SoCalKJ Posted December 2, 2012 #17 Share Posted December 2, 2012 Alaska is amazing! What I'll do differently next time is pay more to go in July/August. We went the first week in May and while it was still breathtaking, it was (not surprisingly) still really cold...and the wildlife was still (for the most part) in hibernation... We went fishing and if we waited until later, we would've been in Salmon heaven. However, we had to settle for rock fish limbo. Oh well.
kingoftheicedragons Posted December 3, 2012 #18 Share Posted December 3, 2012 When is whale migration? We went in late August and the humpbacks were heading south then. They typically would be heading north between April and June.
