Chain Stores in DR?

Looking for some help... My brother and sister in law have recently moved to the DR and I wanted to get them a gift card for Christmas. What chain stores are there that they would be able to shop at? Wal-Mart? Target? Best Buy? Or should I go with Amazon that they could get shipped to them? Thanks!

Go with an Amazon gift that they can get shipped here.

None of the stores you mentioned are in the DR. The chain stores here don't offer gift vouchers that you could purchase from abroad (most don't have decent websites, none have online ordering). Also most items will be a lot more expensive than in the US.

 

There is however a genuine IKEA store in Santo Domingo, it's the only one in Latin America! They do have gift vouchers but you can't buy them online :(

Your family should have an account with a US mailbox/courier service as there is no reliable postal system here. No import tax is charged on items under $US200.

 

Amazon is def the way to go!

Thanks for your help! :) They do have an address in Florida to ship things to, but I wanted to make sure they would be able to send whatever I get for them.
