stones902 Posted December 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2012 If you were lucky enough to rent a cabana on Coco Cay I would be interested in hearing your experience? More specifically did you feel it was worth it? Was the beach area nice in the area near the cabana? We have done the cabanas on Labadee on a couple of occasions and enjoyed it each time. Can I anticipate a similar experience on Coco Cay? Thank you in advance for your replies!
bmarchal Posted December 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 10, 2012 Coco cay is in a lot different location than on Labadee. It is located by the ocean without access to the water because of the huge rocks at the waters edge. The view is wonderful and it's nice and quiet. The lunch is about the same and the service is good with a little up scaled menu selection.
Bettytrouble Posted December 10, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2012 If you have kids, they will have to walk a LONG LONG way to the water slide and waterpark areas. It was a nice treat, I enjoyed not having a crowd for lunch!

Not sure why they would locate the cabanas in an area not near the swimming area esp. when they offer golf cart transportation. No kids here so that's not a concern but I am looking foward to the upgraded lunch.
CAT GIRL Posted December 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2012 I tried to rent a cabana the last time I was there. They had all been chartered out. When I got to the island I was glad I hadn't gotten one. They are all enclosed in one area but not with access to the beach. Nothing like the set up in Labadee. I can't comment on the food but for me it wouldn't be worth it for this island. JMO.
audome78 Posted December 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2012 We have done cabanas in both Labadee and Coco Cay. Unquestionably, the Labadee cabanas provide better access to the beach/water. The Coco Cay cabanas offer a much quieter experience. But definitely NOT near the beach. Not far, but no direct beach access. The upgraded lunch, while the essentially the same at both locations in terms of what's offered, is MUCH nicer at Coco Cay- shorter lines and a nicer layout. Either way, the service, the food, and the convenience, make it a valuable experience for us. PS...we were at CocoCay in February, 2012, and at Labadee in July, 2012. The cabanas in Labadee had ceiling fans and power outlets, while those at Coco Cay had neither...YMMV
parrotfeathers Posted December 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2012 Coco Cay was okay. Not much of a fan of the barbeque stuff (from the south where we know barbeque). I did enjoy the nature walk and resting under those wonderful trees.

No kids here so that's not a concern but I am looking foward to the upgraded lunch. We had 4 adults and rented the Deluxe Cabana back in September. I think the lunch was much nicer. We had Steak and Shrimp for lunch (plus Chicken and other stuff) at the Cabana lunch. I think we also had some upgraded salad items. With 4 Adults we got the 4 bottles of water, bottle of Champagne, 2 snorkel kits, 2 rafts. So it really wasnt that much more expensive. I would do it again with multiple people. mrsfuzzmo Posted December 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2012 I get that there's no real beach where the cabanas are, but can you get into the water anywhere.....any kind of access for snorkeling?
DarthGrady Posted December 11, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2012 We booked a cabanette right after they started the program. It was nice, and the lunch was very good. Like others have said, the biggest problem is that the area doesn't have its own beach. There are photos of the area in my review if you'd like to check it out: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1439969

Can you rent one cabana for a group of 6 people, from 3 different cabins? All adults. I thought access would only be available for the people assigned to the cabin that made the reservation. stones902 Posted December 11, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted December 11, 2012 I really appreciate all of your feedback on the Coco Cay Cabanas. It sounds like they are very similar to Labadee (except electric and ceiling fans). The upgraded lunch is comparable or better but the swimming area stinks. Since we really enjoy the water and beach I think we'll take a pass on the Coco Cay cabanas this time. During our last visit we hiked to the far end of the island and really enjoyed a quiet, beautiful part of the beach.

I thought access would only be available for the people assigned to the cabin that made the reservation. We were in two different cabins. We just had to give the cabin numbers and names to the excursion desk. Not sure if they would allow 6, and 6 would be a bit crowded. Anyway, we were given wristbands to show that we belonged inside the cabana area and when we checked in, we were escorted to our cabana.
