Subarctic Posted March 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2013 She also sank later in the Baltic in 1994 after running over a rock due to a naviational error. A radar overlay was mismatched to the map as they used a different map projection which alone resulted in an error of 170 meters, which is as good as miles away in a typical Finnish setting. An operator error was also thought to have occurred. What saved her was a decision to sail to shallower ground. Nobody was injured, but the aft was submerged up to the 5th deck. Much of the ship needed rebuilding, once again. http://www.turvallisuustutkinta.fi/1201510653805 (The PDF is at the bottom of the page)
