katiel53 Posted December 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2012 Gary, You helped me last year when we were on a cruise that included St Maarten and our wanting to go to a casino. We went to Coliseum and enjoyed it and plan to go again when we sail in January. My question, though, is in reading a review of Carnival Dream from a week ago, the poster said that he went to a casino, not named, and they no longer served free drinks while playing nickel slots. Is that the case in Coliseum? I know we played from pennies to quarters and had free drinks last year. If that is the case, are all the casinos the same now? Thanks again for your help. gtaylor Posted December 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 18, 2012 Hi there, I guess I'd like to see that review. I'm not aware of any changes, but I'm also not sure that all of the casinos here offer free drinks at the slots. I don't remember them at the Diamond Casino, which is actually the closest one to the Cruise Facility and the Bobby's Marina Water Taxi stop. I asked an island friend and she reports that she was at Rouge et Noir (across the street from Coliseum) week before last and they had free drinks for slot players then. (As well as the table games) I suspect that you'll be ok, but please report back on your findings. gary p.s. Remember, you can always grab a beer at the McDonalds walk up window next door and carry it in. :)
katiel53 Posted December 18, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 18, 2012 Gary;, Thanks for the info. I read about it on John Heald's Facebook page where the writer did a lot of complaining about the cruise. He didn't say which casino, just that he played nickel slots in St Martin and they did away with the drinks. I will post when I return from our cruise which returns Jan 19. Thanks again. katiel53 Posted April 2, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Sorry Gary, but I forgot to post when I got back. We went to Coliseum and they did have free drinks and we had a fun time there. When we go back again in January, we will go again. Thanks again for your help.
gtaylor Posted April 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2013 :) We were there in February and I didn't think about checking Coliseum, but I can report that Rouge et Noir still had the free drinks flowing. gary

A few want a casino, others a beach others shopping. Was looking at Bernards private tour so everyone can get what they want but don't think the one's wanting a casino are basically going to pay $40.00 to get there when they could take a cab for less. gtaylor Posted April 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2013 There are a number of casinos mixed in with the shopping along Frontstreet, downtown Philipsburg. It's a 20 minute or so walk, or about a 6 minute water taxi ride. gary

gtaylor Posted April 15, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Sorry for the delay, but I've been away (on a cruise :) ). The Maho area has some shopping and one of the largest casinos on the island, and is within walking distance of both Mullet Bay Beach and Maho beach. The shopping is nothing like what is available in downtown Philipsburg, but there are a number of shops there. gary
