Review of the Coral Princess Alaska May 21- 28

Calving occurs when salt water melts the glacier and hugh pieces of ice crack off the face of the glacier into the water. The sound of the cracking is real loud.. Click on the url below for a better definition with pictures..

Here are 3 pictures of Margerie glacier calving last week (the cruise Largin was on). Not quite as dramatic as in the link, but still pretty cool (there was one huge chunk that came off the face, but I missed the photo opportunity for that one).

I had asked on your thread when you were onboard if you could ask if there were many kids on the prior sailing!! (At least I think that would be our sailing a year from now)

 

I guess you were enjoying the adult pool and didn't want to venture up there, right??!! I'm only kidding, please don't think I'm serious!

 

We're doing the Coral Princess Panama Canal sailing next April 23, 2006. We can't wait. We're hoping there are enough kids that the kids program will be fun, especially on the sea days. I have the port days all figured out.

Sorry. I completely forgot about it. I have no problem going to the kiddie area as one of my friends is one of the Childrens Co-ordinators. However she was not on this ship.. It is way to difficult to compare one cruise against another to determine the number of kids on board but here is a tip on how you can find out about your cruise. One month before your cruise call 1-800-PRINCESS and give them your booking number and ask them for the number of teens, youths and infants that will be on your cruise. If the Customer Rep says she cannot give you that info, tell him/her that they can and that they have provided that info in the past and ask to be transferred to a supervisor. You will get the number from them.. Enjoy.. :D

Thank you very much. I will follow your advise. Please tell your friend that the Diamond Princess Kids Club employees were tops! What a well-run program. My kids had mothing but praise for everyone they met there - both the counselors and the kids.

 

After seeing the Alaska pictures, I'd like to try this cruise someday! How beautiful.

The gunboats in Ketchikan, according to our guide Rod, Sourdough Tours to Saxman, is due to huge fuel tanks in Ketchikan. It seems that they were a terrorist target and so the Coast Guard sent in machine guns on their boats.

The gunboats were very noticeable, especially since in the other ports we saw no security whatsoever.

 

We did the shows and thought they were really good. The production shows are one of the highlights for us. "Dance" was the best we thought, followed by "Tribute". We enjoyed the 3rd as well, but the name slips my mind at the moment.

Gloria.. Nice meeting you and Dr. Bob also. Dunno if Rod gave you the correct info. Our ship was the only ship that the gunboats shadowed. We saw the HAL and RCL ships enter the area after us and they were not shadowed and when the Diamond left, she wasn't shadowed. When we left, the 2 gunboats reappeared and escorted us out.. :confused: :confused: :confused:
